Topic: x15 laptop config Posted: 13 Jun 2012 at 6:58pm |
Budget:
[No more than $1,500] Expectations: [Responsive, quick boots, smooth game play at high settings, sturdy design, no overheating of components, bios with some actual configurable settings (ie: cpu and memory overclocking, memory timings).] Usage: [For the most part, It will be used for gaming. Games run from Minecraft, Skyrim, BF3, etc. (especially Planetside 2 when it is released) ] Special Needs: [It needs to be portable yet powerful, as it will be replacing both my ancient laptop and my aging desktop] Saved Ticket #: [698819] Specifications: [Specifications: Chassis Model: Digital Storm x15 Laptop (Model: 9130) Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 3610QM (2.3 GHz Turbo Mode to 3.3Ghz) (Quad Core) (6MB Cache) Motherboard: - Not Available System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Power Supply: - Not Available Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: Intel 120GB SSD (520 Series) (SATA 6Gb/s) Set 1 Raid Options: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - Not Available Optical Drive 1: DVD/CD 8x Multi-Drive (Writes and Reads DVDs, CDs) Optical Drive 2: - Not Available Internet Access: 802.11 B/G/N Wireless LAN Module Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M 1.5GB with NVIDIA Optimus Technology Add-on Card: - Not Available Sound Card: - Not Available Extreme Cooling: Premium IC Diamond CPU and GPU Thermal Compound (Reduces Thermal & Laptop Noise) H20 Tube Color:- Not Available Chassis Airflow: - Not Available Internal Lighting: - Not Available Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available LaserMark: - Not Available Boost Processor: - Not Available Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: - Not Available Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Game: - Not Available Display: 15.6 Inch (16:9) (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) (Glossy Surface) LED-Backlit Display Surge Shield: - Not Available Speakers: - Not Available Keyboard: - Not Available Mouse: - Not Available External Storage: - Not Available Exclusive T-Shirt: - Not Available Priority Build: - Not Available Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty] I believe this config should be able to meet the gaming performance I am after, but I cant seem to find any information on the weight or thermal output of this particular model. I know this information is rather difficult to obtain for built to order system, but I could do with some ballpark figures. Some other important info which is missing are the battery specs. In fact, I haven't noticed any mentioning of a battery on the config page. PS: one final thing, as I was looking for a Message Icon to use for this topic, I couldn't help but noticing that the example icons displayed had little to do with the emotion selected. I chose Wink and it showed a crying animation, so lets see what happens =) Edit: LOL, might want to fix that emoticon issue Edited by defry1234 - 13 Jun 2012 at 7:01pm |

looks good. Id consider a hybrid hard drive, that way you get a lot more space (15is had one drive bay I believe) or an external at least, since the games will start to take up a lot of space. Other then that, looks good.

Thank you for your interest in a Digital Storm gaming laptop!
Here's the specs on the weight/size: 6.83 LBs with Battery Pack 14.80" (w) x 10.08" (d) x 1.38"~1.69" (h) Battery life is about 3-4 hours, and during gaming, about 2 hours (this will vary). I'll let the team know about the message icons on the forums.

Redkulaid is right. That 120GB SSD already has almost 50GB of stuff on it, and you will probably run out of space quickly, unless you either add a multimedia hard drive or switch the primary.

I am a little skeptical of getting a hybrid hdd since I've heard that they don't last as long because of the constant spinning up and down. I most likely will grab a TB portable drive to take with me. Its interesting to see a 670m with 1.5GB vram instead of the 3GB in similarly priced models.

Yeah I was curious about that to, why do the DS laptops have the 670M with 1.5GB memory instead of 3?

Clevo offers the GTX 670M GPU with 1.5GB for that model.
