I have a DS PC with the x299 mobo and 4x16gb of ram and I want to switch out the DS installed DDR4 with Corsair Vengeance 4x16gb. Do I need to disable XMP before installing that? I'm wanting to do this with intentions of installing another 4x16gb of the same Corsair later so as to have matched 32gb of ram like what is highly recommended on here. I've already tried the switch but the PC wouldn't boot up. Only black screen for 3 or 4 minutes. I installed the ram modules like the mobo manual said. Start with C1 then D1, A1 then B1.

XMP will normally turn off and make sure the sticks boot ok before keeping the profile.   BUT, like anything computer, it doesn't always work.  IF it faults out then turn off XMP, install new ram and then select the profile that fits the sticks.

If its not booting then a good chance the voltage isn't correct.

I'm confused Hahaha, you want to add 4x16gb to existing 4x16gb to get 32gb ?   That's 64gb initially and then 128gb after the second set of 4x16gb.  Maybe I read it wrong.  Some x299 mobo only accept 64gb total.

Also, if it doesn't boot after new ram it could be a bad stick or two of ram.   Try XMP to off first.

I missed typed. I meant I had 4x4gb for 16 total wanting to got to 32gb. After hearing XMP should normally turn itself off when booting with new ram I tried again with this time making sue I heard the click for every stick seating and indeed the PC did boot with the got to set up screen. I turned XMP on then exited and it booted up fine. I checked CPU-Z and the ram is there with the XMP profile showing.
I feel ok ordering the next 4 matching sticks now. Thank you for the reassurance.
