2014 New Years Gaming Resolutions

New Year’s Gaming Resolutions

The New Year is a great time to start new, healthy habits and break some of our older, less-than-savory ones. While most people think of New Year’s resolutions as opportunities to make life-changing decisions, we’re viewing it as an opportunity to make some positive changes to our gaming habits. Below are a few ideas for resolutions for gamers in 2014!

1. I will embrace gaming on a laptop

Here’s the deal. Most PC gamers scoff at the idea of playing their games on a laptop, but few realize how powerful modern laptops are. For example, Digital Storm offers a number of gaming laptops that can go toe-to-toe with just about any gaming desktop. Plus, for those of us who travel often, going this route (especially in addition to a nice gaming desktop) ensures that we won’t miss a second of gaming, no matter where we are. In 2014, embrace the laptop

2. I will share my games with someone else

Whether it’s a younger sibling, an older parent/grandparent, or your significant other, this year, spend some time gaming with someone you care about. There are plenty of enjoyable multiplayer and co-op games out there, so find a good one, and enjoy some quality time with a great game and someone you love. You may be surprised by how much bonding can be done over a video game, and how much you’ll enjoy sharing something you love with someone else.

3. I will play through my massive backlog of games

Friday deals? How can we possibly resist buying tons of new games for insanely low prices? It seems great at the time, but take a look at your library (both your physical library and digital library); how many of those games have you actually played? How many have you beaten? This year, instead of adding to your already growing problem, go back to that massive pile of games and play through some of them. You probably have quite a few diamonds in your collection that you’ve completely forgotten about due to another game going on sale.

4. I will try a new gaming genre

. This is a scary concept for many gamers. But in 2014, try to expand your horizons a bit. For example, have you never played an RPG before? Steam now has some classic RPGs, such as Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII available to play that offer a great starting point for the genre. You might be surprised to discover that you really like a certain genre despite having previously never giving it the time of day. This year, step outside of your box and try something new—I promise it won’t be as bad as you think.

5. Above all else, I will have fun

Seriously, video games are…games. Very often, we get caught up in all of the wrong things about gaming. This year, let’s try to enjoy our games for what they are: a fun, interactive form of entertainment that we all love. The advent of achievements and trophies in video games has taken away from the idea of playing games for fun, as we all seem to drive toward getting 100% in every game we play. Instead of letting trophies and achievements dictate how we play our games this year, why don’t we play them solely for our own enjoyment—on our own terms? Let 2014 be the year that we put the fun back into gaming!

These are just a few ideas for resolutions for gamers in 2014. What did you think of our list? What’s your gaming resolution for next year? Let us know below in the comments!
