Fractal Design NODE 804 Micro-ATX Case Review

Fractal Design NODE 804 Micro-ATX Case Review

Fractal Design has recently unveiled the NODE 804 which is the biggest model in their NODE series of cases. At a $110 dollars, the NODE 804 aims to be the Micro ATX case to beat with plenty of room to fit an insane gaming computer. Unlike conventional towers, the NODE 804 has adopted the ever growing cube design that many manufacturers are beginning to embrace.

Measuring 344mm wide, 390mm long and 307mm tall, the case is still small enough to where you should put it on your table to desk to show off. Considering optical disk drives are becoming less and less necessary nowadays, it’s good to see that Fractal Design opted to keep the front panel nice and clean with a brushed aluminum finish.

On the left side is where you will install the majority of the components and is also where the side window is located. On the right side, you’ll find a solid metal door as well as the slim slot drive, headphone and microphone jacks, two USB 3.0 ports and the power button.

The front panel easily pops off and can also house two 2.5” drives. There are also two huge fan filters that support up to a total of four 120mm fans.

The top panel is a single large piece of mesh that acts as a fan filter and allows you to install multiple fans to blow out hot air. The angled fins also help push some of the hot air away from the user and also helps dampen the noise.

One of the huge selling points of the chassis is the water cooling capabilities. You are able to install a 240mm radiator in the main compartment and a 280mm in the other section. The fan mounts on the main side are also offset to make sure large motherboard heat sinks don’t affect anything.

The large cutouts also make it very easy to route any tubing and the overall interior layout is one the best that we have seen in a smaller chassis. Not to mention, the included fan controller makes it easy to adjust your fan speeds depending on what your computer is doing.

The interior features Fractal’s signature white and black design with the majority of the case being black while the accents such as fan blades and PCI covers are white. The cables are also sleeved which helps retain the sleek design of the Node 804.

The bottom main section allows you to install two 2.5” or 3.5” drives depending on your configurations. You can also install additional fans if needed.

On the opposite section, the hard drive cages support up to eight 3.5” drives in a vertical rotation. There is no SSD mounting options so you’ll either have to buy an adaptor or use the allocated mounts around the chassis. The caged themselves are also removable allowing for better airflow and customization.

There are also two large Velcro straps that lay beside the power supply making it very easy to tidy up any wires and optimize air-flow. The entire bottom of the case does feature filters to keep out any dust.

In conclusion, the Node 804 is definitely a breeze to build in and also looks pretty darn good. It has excellent water cooling capabilities and is fully dust proof which makes it very easy to clean. Not to mention, the split chamber design helps not only the air-flow, but also helps hide a lot of the cable clutter. For $110, you’ll be hard pressed to find another micro-ATX case that looks this good.
