The 5 Best Professional Gamers in the World

The 5 Best Professional Gamers in the World

The 5 Best Professional Gamers in the World

In the past decade, gaming has become a legitimate profession. Players from all over the world are making waves in the competitive gaming realm, and making a comfortable living as a result of their unique gaming talents. Below is our list of the (arguably)five best professional gamers in the world.

5. Jang “Moon” Jae Ho

Playing in 64 different tournaments between both StarCraft II and WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos, Jae Ho amassed over $350,000 in his competitive gaming career. He won the WarCraft III World Championship on five different occasions, and he played and won more televised WarCraft III games in his career than anyone else. Once Moon joined the professional gaming team Fnatic, he switched full time to StarCraft II. Moon has one of the most varied and successful careers in competitive gaming, and was featured in the 2008 documentary Beyond the Game, which focused on professional WarCraft III players.

4. Danil “Dendi” Ishutin

Dota 2 is one of the most-played games in the professional gaming world, and Dendi is the best-of-the-best when it comes to this fast paced game. He started his career playing the original Defense of the Ancients back in 2008, and was later hired by the professional gaming team NatusVincere in 2011, due to his impressive gaming talent. That same year, Dendi won The International—Dota’s largest tournament. He continues to dominate today, and still ranks as one of the best Dota 2 players in the world.

3. Jung “MVP” Jong Hyun

Hailing from Korea, Jong Hyun swept through the StarCraft II competitive scene like a hurricane, wrecking anyone that stood in his path. MVP, as he’s called, won the Global StarCraft II League title a total of four times, racking up a hefty sum of cash in the process. He’s known for his incredible macro management abilities in the mid-to-late game, and he’s celebrated for his top-notch ability to control marines and BattleCruisers to victory.

2. Lee “Flash” Young Ho

StarCraft players know this guy well. While his run in StarCraft II hasn’t been very stellar, he made a huge mark in the StarCraft: Brood War circuit. He was the youngest player to ever win a professional title (15), and went on to be the first player in history to reach both the MSL and OSL finals three times in a row. He’s the world’s fourth winner of the Golden Mouse—a prestigious award given to only the best StarCraft players in the world.

1. Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel

We’ve all seen the computer accessories, motherboards, graphics cards for use in gaming laptops and gaming desktops, bearing his name and logo. There’s a reason this guy is all over the gaming world. He’s one of the first prominent professional gamers, making his mark in games such as Unreal Tournament, Quake III, and Painkiller. He’s won numerous titles and banked tons of cash, easily establishing himself as the top professional gamer in the world. As the pioneer for professional gaming, there’s no question he comes in at number one on our list.

These players have all racked up tons of cash during their tournament runs in their respective games. They are all admired (and hated) for their ability to smash the competition, no matter who it may be. There are many professional gamers out there making their mark all over the world, and the future is bright for anyone looking to make a living from playing (and dominating) in gaming tournaments.

Did we leave any gamers off the list? If you would like to contribute to the conversation, post in the comment section below—we’d love to hear your opinion!
