Thief Video Card Benchmarks - NVIDIA and AMD

Thief Video Card Benchmarks - Nvidia and AMD

The developers of Thief have shown that they truly care about the PC platform by implementing tons of options that allow users to change various settings. Although the game runs on the old Unreal 3 engine, it can still be quite demanding. For our test, we used the built-in benchmark tool and tested both 1080p and 1600p resolutions.

For our video cards, we chose the NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780, GTX 770, GTX 760 and GTX 750 Ti. On the AMD side, we used the R9 290X, R9 290, R9 280X and R9 270X

Test Bench

Motherboard     ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition
CPU     Intel 4960X at 4.6GHz
Memory     32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz
Hard Drive     250GB Western Digital Velociraptor
Power Supply     Corsair ATX 1200i Power Supply

Benchmarks

At 1080p maxed out, Thief is definitely playable at maxed out settings as long as you have a GTX 780 or R9 290. If you plan on gaming with a 120hz monitor, you might want to lower anti-aliasing or try lowering the settings to high/very-high.

At 1600p, single graphics card setups begin to be pushed to their limits. Even a GTX 780 Ti can't maintain a steady 60 fps at maxed out settings. My recommendations is that you disable Parallax Occlusion Mapping to increase your frame rates.

Conclusion

Overall, you can see that Thief can be quite demanding once you turn up the graphics to max settings. If you turn down anti-aliasing and lower the models to high, you can get away with using a GTX 760 or R9 270X on 1080P with enjoyable frame rates.
