V-MODA XS Headphone Review

V-MODA XS Headphone Review

At $200, the V-MODA XS on-ear headphones definitely are a big improvement over the company’s previous Crossfade M80. Unlike the previous model, the new XS has a new metal hinge design that can fold upwards to become more compact. The faceplates are also still customizable and the headphones come in either white or black.

Compactness is a big selling point of the V-MODA XS. With the included hard carrying case, the XS headphones make a great pair of traveling headphones considering their overall small footprint. Not to mention, the included carabiner allows you to easily attach it to your backpack when not in use.

Unlike most headphones that feature thick headbands, the XS was designed to be slim and form-fitting. This is why they have removed much of the extra unnecessary padding and have instead gone with a new headband design that sits more flush with your head.

Adjusting the headband is also very easy. You can pull down on either the left or right ear cup to increase in the height. When changing the size of the headband, you can definitely notice the build quality that V-MODA put into the XS. Nothing feels cheap as all of the moving components are made from metal so they won’t break under pressure. Due to the headband being as thin as it is, the overall weight of the headphones is pretty hard to tell once you have them on your head.

The left and right ear cups both feature memory foam that adjusts to the shape of your ear over time to eventually develop a better sounding pair of headphones. After using them for over a week, we can definitely say that there was a positive change in sound quality as the headphones passed their burn-in period and adjusted to the shape of my ears.

Quality is just something you expect from V-MODA and the XS is no different. The XS is built using military grade materials that ensure a long life span unlike the plastic Beats headphones. The cable is reinforced with Kevlar and is rated for over 1 million bends. Not to mention, the XS can survive more than 70 drops on concrete.

Another unique feature is the dual ports that allow you to daisy-chain headphones to share music with friends. No longer will you need a Y-adapter to listen to the same audio, all you have to do is plug the other headphones into the free 3.5mm jack on either ear cup.

Now what you really want to know is how it performs when it comes to music. If anyone has used any of V-MODA’s previous products, you’ll know that there is definitely an emphasis on the bass. Obviously because these aren’t over-the-ear headphones, the bass won’t be head rattling but you can definitely feel the punch. It can be a bit overpowering at times by making the mids and lows sound a bit muddy, but it isn’t something that detracts from the overall sound quality.

In conclusion, for a pair of on-ear headphones, the V-MODA XS are definitely one of our favorite models that we have ever tested. Not only are they compact, they also sound pretty darn good for $200. If you’re looking for a pair of stylish and compact headphones that sound good, you’ll definitely want to give the V-MODA XS a listen.
