I want 16x-8x with both slots populated, not 8x-8x.

I would like main GPU slot to be gen 5 (for future proofing) but Gen4 would be acceptable. I don't care if the secondary 8x slot is an older gen. As long as it is Gen3 or faster.

LGA1700 only has 20 lanes, so I think that not going to happen (but they are gen5, so you never know with PCIe switches)

AM5 has 28 lanes, so it should be theoretically possible, even with all gen5, with 4 lanes to spare (for m.2 or chipset or whatever)

Has anyone ever seen a motherboard with this kind of 16x-8x configuration? I have spent hours pouring through Neweggs filters trying to find one with no success.

There has to be at least one... Right?

Thus far, about an hour in, no leaks for the quick-connects going in/out of the CPU water block. My GPU connections never leaked, so those are standard DS elbow fittings. I was even able to take away the 'protective blanket' of dried up alcohol wipes I laid over the PSU. I kept the cupcake baking tins because they look just so damned cute now (lol).

Hardware Discussion : pc cooling reservoir cap is stuck

In fact, I'd tell you to absolutely to not do it. But I'm just sharing my own story with this problem.

I had the same problem with mine. Tried channel locks, elbow grease, everything. Couldn't get the damned thing off, and I turn wrenches as part of my job with positive displacement pumps at a water treatment plant. I suspect when they drained the reservoir for shipping, they use some kind of vacuum suction that effectively seals that cap on making it unable to turn ('airbound').

Fortunately, I had a quick (and most ill-advised dirty fix).. I drilled a hole through the top of the cap, equalizing the pressure. The cap came right off as soon as I did that.

Then I took some JB-Weld and sealed the drill-hole I just created, careful that I didn't get any "bubbles" or "smudges" oozing out of the top or bottom of the cap. Then I slapped some layers of duct-tape over that JB-Weld seld for good measure, as soon as it cured.

Now I have a lingering issue with the Hydrolux CPU cooling hose fittings getting poor O-Rings that degrade over time and gradually leaking coolant right over my PSU (which has been blanketed by very thin alcohol pads and a few aluminum foil cupcake baking tins to collect the coolant that leaks out). I'm on my second fitting sent by Digital Storm and these O-rings are total garbage.

I'd suggest any potential buyers don't even bother with the Hydrolux at all.

Edited by bmm52584 - 23 Feb 2024 at 2:44pm

Hardware Discussion : Daisy chaining monitors using DisplayPort

    Author: smfcpa
Subject: Daisy chaining monitors using DisplayPort
Posted: 17 Feb 2024 at 3:27pm

While waiting for my new Aventum computer to arrive, I wanted to see if my old Aventum computer would support DisplayPort Daisy chaining two monitors. My old computer is 4 years old. I have been using dual monitors for a long time. It was very convenient for the work I used to do. I have been retired for 16 years.

You need one monitor that has a DisplayPort input and output jack. I have two new Dell Ultra Sharp 27" 4K monitors that fill the bill. Your video card must also support DisplayPort 1.2 or higher.

I wasn't sure if my old Aventum did so, I thought I would give it a go. Incidentally the final monitor in your daisy chain dŒsn't need a DisplayPort output port nor dŒs it need to support DisplaPort 1.2.

So you connect your first monitor to your video card using your DisplayPort output on the video card to the DisplayPort input and connect a DisplayPort cable from the DisplayPort output on that monitor to monitor 2 and like magic, you have dual monitors. You will need to setup the parameters on the two monitors to your liking (i.e., font size, resolution, etc.). The process couldn't have been easier. You don't really reduce clutter, but you have one less wire going into the computer.

Edited by smfcpa - 17 Feb 2024 at 3:29pm

That said, the maker of the card you want will know, and that stat will be available at their website.
