Author: DST4ME
Subject: Upgrade / Add Graphics Card
Posted: 18 Jun 2016 at 4:55am

How hard is it to add a second gpu or upgrade current one?

OH my gosh no no, its very difficult, j/k

Its very simple to do, I/we can show/teach you how to do it in 2 minutes.

It is very easy to do, you just buy the video card:

1. Disconnect the power cord of your pc from the wall, open side panel and wait till all the lights on the mobo are off then(one minute should do it):

2. Look at your mobo, it will look something like the pic below, but yours will have one gpu in it already, below pic dŒs not have any gpus yet:

Now here is what your gpu will kina look like, this one is a evga 980 gtx:

2A. you will probably have to remove the screws that mount the gpu. Dont forget to push down the clip/latch to release the old gpu if you are removing a gpu first before adding the new one

3. Now line up the gpu with the pci lane and put/push the gpu in the pci lane:

And you should endup with something like this:(don't forget to screw the mounting screws back to hold new gpu in place, not shown in pic below.)

4. Then you just grab the sli bridge that should have come with your extra stuff with the pc, "Hard" sli bridge is not bendable and is straight, the one below is a "soft" sli bridge, which can bend in the middle a bit:

Here is the sli port of the gpu:

You take each end and stick one in each gpu, so it kinda looks like this:

5. Connect the power cables already there for the gpu, to the gpu, this guide uses cards that take 6pin or 8 pin connectors like this:

But depending on the gpu you are getting your connectors might be 6 pin or 8 pin, so check to see what your card takes, this guide is using 980/1080 gtx as an example. If you are not sure what you need, just simply make a post in the hardware section of the forum and we can tell you what your gpu takes/needs.

You take them and simply stick it in the 6 or 8 pin socket in the gpu:

And you endup kinda like this (coloring of connectors can be different, this is just an example):

6. Connect the psu back to the wall, turn pc on, you may or may not need to reinstall gpu drivers.

That whole things from the time you open side panel to the time you close it because you are done, should take 2 minutes, give or take a minute.

Edited by DST4ME - 19 Nov 2017 at 1:34pm

    Author: DST4ME
Subject: Memory Stress Testing
Posted: 09 Mar 2013 at 10:24pm

Go here to download hci memtest

Personally I like to use the number of logical cores, aka how many cores the system actually has.

So in short if you have a 4 core cpu then run 4 insistences of hci and if you have a 6 core then run 6 insistences and if you have a 8 core cpu then run 8 insistences.

Then simply run task manager (ctrl+alt+delete, then choose run Task Manager),(you can simply add a shortcut to task manager to your desktop for ease of access so either go to your system32 folder and create a shortcut for it,or just download this to your desktop and run it, it will add a shortcut to your desktop for you, once task manager is running go to its performance tab and under the graphs you should see "Physical Memory(MB)" in this section look under "Free" and whatever ram is free divide it between the insistences of hci you have open, keep in mind at this point you have shutdown all the program and only background stuff like anti virus is running so your free ram should be a good amount (about 90% - 80% of your total ram).

If your free ram is under 60% - 70% make a post on the forums and let us look at your background tasks, you seem to have too much stuff running in the background.

Now after you divided the total free ram between the instances of hci you have open, run those instances, this is what you want to follow:

1. Test until 100% coverage (a quick test to make sure your RAM is functioning reasonably)

2. Test for 1 hour (this will catch everything except intermittent of errors)

3. Test overnight (recommended; your computer is not doing anything else at night anyway, why not be absolutely sure your RAM is good?)

Before I reset my bios or anything like that I would first come and make a post in the forums or contact DS and ask for some help.

Keep in mind that hci or any test you do from inside windows can not check every sector of the ram, to do that you need an app that you can boot off of a cd before windows starts.

such app is Memtest+:

Memtest86+

if you need help on Memtest please make a post and one of us will be happy to walk you thru.

Edited by DST4ME - 17 Sep 2016 at 10:15am

In that case, we recommend that you do a fresh re-install of Windows. When you do follow this process, make sure you delete the current partition(s) Windows is installed on. The Windows Installer will allow you to do this when you boot off of the original Windows disc when you are doing a fresh install.

It is incredibly easy to use.

Download it here, unzip it where ever you like.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1691/Real_Temp_3.40.html

When you open it, you will see a screen like this:

The most effective way to use this program is to start it before you run any test (or game if you wish) to see what it will log as your high and low temperatures during whatever activities you do. If you want to reset it, there is a RESET button on the bottom, or you can just close it and reopen it to start a new session.

Here is a key for you:

RED - the processors current live temperatures

YELLOW - RealTemps will track for as long as it is open and keep record of the lowest temperature each core reaches.
