Topic: Build for $3,500 Posted: 11 Jun 2010 at 12:10pm |
Hey guys im back again looking at more PC's for friends XD
This friend of mine will be using this to play mainly WoW / surf internet / Listen to music (etc). And he does use headsets and said he WANTS the creative sound card with the controls on the front , at the same time he wants it to be quiet. He doesn't have the budget for LC so this is what I came up with. He games at 1680x1050 (wide) display (Native Resolution is 1600x1280) Couple things about the build im un-sure of : 1) Does the cache of the hard drive make a big difference? (as in 32mb Cahce compared to 64mb cache?) 2) Would the ATi Radeon 5870 be the best card for this set up? 3) Can I drop the PSU to 750watts? 4) Does this MOBO have enough lanes for what is listed in this build. Yup that MB is fine. For that resolution a 5850/470 would be fine and just destroy WOW. A 750w corsair psu would be great. May want to consider a smaller ssd for the os and a 1tb for other multimedia storage

Not really worried about an SSD, He doesn't mind, altho I might change it to a 1TB HDD seeing as he has a 500GB one already.
Your build is nice , but unfortuneatly my friend wants the front display panel for the Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty professional card, which is only acessable via the Black Ops builds, which is why your build is way under the budget :P But Thank you very much for posting your build, I 'll talk to him about living with out the front display :P Maybe he'll be fine with it who knows! If someone knows, I was wondering if this build (mine) would be quiet? Thanks for the advice! Feel free to keep on posting! |

I do not think the sound card is that big of a deal. Its not worth the extra few hundred bux for the front i/o. I suggest asking DS if they can install that and say its a custom thing so they charge u a extra maybe 50 or something instead of having to go Black ops for just the sound card. If taht dont work out id suggest buy the sound card yourself and install it yourself, and even if that dont work im sure even if you order it online, AND have a local techy to install it for you would be cheaper than going black ops. Thats what i think. If they do let you you can switch up the gpu to a stronger one just incase u need it cause of a switch of monitor in the future and/or include a intel ssd for first hdd then 1tb for second.
And for the quiet or not, I dont suggest going Hailstorm with a aircooled system. Go with one of the HAF's or the assassin for better air flow. Most of your sound is going to come from your GPU so ahve a better air flow case so taht the gpu wont get as hot as it should be therefore making it more quiet. |

Thanks everyone for the posts, just curious now, How bad is the air flow in the Hailstorm? and is it quiet? reason I keep trying to push that is because he really likes that case.
Also what kind fans are in the Haf 932? 200mm LED Red in the front no? |

Looks to me the sound card he wants is the Champion, and it's available in BOTH sections. I didn't see any difference between the two in sound card dropdown.
If he wants 2T of space, he's much better off with 2X 1T. He's gonna have to manage that OS drive (defrag, clone/backup, etc.) and the smaller is better. The cache from 16 to 32 is a significant speed boost. 32 to 64 not so much.
If he likes the Hailstorm, have him check out the Assassin instead. Very much the same look, but much better airflow. DST (Iknow you know who he is) NEVER recommends the Hailstorm for air cooling.
The HAF 932 has 3 main fans @ 230MM. One front (red LED) one side, one top.
You want to see it from DS, look here:
...and prepare to have your sox knocked off!
coolmasta got you covered with that 2nd config, except for case. Show those pics to your friend, it might be all over.

bah I hate him lol, now hes considering dropping the sound card and just buying it later and going with more money towards LC XD
For the cases, I showed him both extensively and hes decided that he likes the Assassi nthe best, and from point of view its a pretty good choice, nice LC set up in there! Anyways will hit you guys back with more updates as they come! |
