Budget:
$5000 (+/- 20%) Expectations: Support dual monitors Fit on my desk (there is plenty or room, but I think a mid-tower would fit best. Sufficient graphics ability to play most games at a reasonable rate on high or very high settings SSD OS drive (500GB?) 6-12TB (usable) for data/programs on mirrored HDDs Upgradability by me (upgrade video cards in 2 years or so, add additional storage if needed, etc.) Blu-Ray Read/Write 15 or 20 or 40-in-1 media card reader 3 to 6 USB ports On-board audio Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Usage: 60% Gaming - Steam - Some FPS (Sniper Elite, Borderlands, etc.) - Some 4x (Civilization, etc.) - A lot of RPG (Pillars, Baldurs, Shadowrun, etc.) - Almost ZERO multi-player 40% General Computing - Web - Media Server (iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Windows Media) - Office applications (Google Drive, MS Office) - Quicken, etc. - Some VirtualMachine work / development Special Needs: Noting beyond "expectations". I did configure a Slade model, but it came out about $1100 over my budget. However I do really like the low-noise features of the Slade model. Is that the right model for me? Have I over-configured anything? Any suggestions appreciated. "6-12TB (usable) for data/programs on mirrored HDDs" ***** You did not choose a raid set up. Change the configuration to select a "Raid 1" set up. Go with the 850 pro SDD for a 10 year warranty vs 5 years. I'd choose the super nova power supply. Better warranty and smoother power output. Media Server (iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Windows Media) - Office applications (Google Drive, MS Office) - Quicken, etc. - Some VirtualMachine work / development ******** would be the determining factor on my next concern - do you need the Core i7 5820K and DDR4 RAM or would an I7 4790K and DDR3 work. If the virtual machine work and development really stresses the CPU then you are good but if it doesn't do high computations then the I7 4790K should be good. 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB (Includes PhysX) will only be about a 15% loss and should serve well. (and would be closer to your 5K budget. If you don't need super quiet you could drop the Noise Suppression Package Stage 2 and just do the stage 1 dampening. |
