Quote from Snaike from the Bay area from another thread, ....
Quote. Bah... EQ was 5 hours ago and by the time it got to us in the bay area it was a 12 second gentle roll. Was rather mild here. Most people around here went right back to sleep. Best wishes to the folks in the epicenter and surrounds, though. 6.0 can do some damage. Quote So not lucky further north. |

It definitely woke me up at 3:30AM when it hit... and I live about 20 miles further down.

We were on call in the shop... we had mentioned that if it was San Andreas and local it was going to be about a 4 on the Richter Scale. So we were hoping it was close and mild.
It wasn't. We're in San Francisco.. so we joke about EQs all the time because most of them go unnoticed or are cool little waves. Until someone gets hurt. Thoughts and prayers to our friends up north. |

My brother and his dog were woken by it, but the rest of his family slept through it. He said it was about 10 seconds of rolling. He's on the peninsula, so about 40-50 miles south of the epicenter, I think.

More than likely the dog was first to notice it. My wife (jokingly referred to as "she who must be obeyed" on these forums) hates earthquakes. They terrify her, literally. The dogs, before the EQ hit, jumped on her bed and ran straight to her to be with her when the rolling started. Whether it was because they were scared or because they went to protect/calm her is up for debate. We believe the latter. |
