i notice everyone on this forum seems to use gtx 480 nvidia cards.  I have looked at a lot of bench marks and was going to go ATI but dont understand why everyone seems to avoid them?

not really about avoiding a brand, the only thing beating the 480 atm is the 5970 to my knowledge, and its not a single card, its multi-gpu, and costs significantly more
the 5870 doesnt seem to be bad, personally i just stick with reccomending nvid becuase thats what i know and the catalyst drivers seem to be really having some problems recently

Cause we're doing all we can to keep the green team afloat.
Heaven's knows what'll happen if Nvidia folds. Turn to matrox perhaps?Big%20Smile

it is dependent on the game.  it depends on resolution, settings, ect on the specific game.
It is easy to post games, with specific settings  to be able to  show the 5870 beating the GTX 480, and vice versa. overall, on an average, the GTX 480 is 10%-20% faster, but there are a ton of variables involved.
Some games love Nvidia, some prefer ATI.
Nvidia is much more efficient at applying AA, so the higher the AA, the bigger difference there will be between ATI and Nvidia.

i guess i just was surprised because in every build there is a nvidia card here where when i read online it seems most people are saying ATI is better

I did read that SLI 480 is the best way to go but i dont think i can do that quite yet:P
Anyhow was just curious thanks!

haha you dont need to go that high, 1 470 is really fine for mainstream, but a lot of peoeple building on this site have budgets that are $1700 and up in which range 480s are the hot item

You know you ask DS what brand their "certified psu" actually is, cause if it's something like an antec or a kingwin or toughpower it's actually quite a good deal.

and PS. How are mushkin PSUs? everyone seems to love their RAM.

Alex from the Digital Storm team says good things about DS's brand of PSUs (TechNPS), in that they are manufactured by the same companies that make PSUs for all the top PSU brands.

god i was looking everywhere for that post, i new it was tech nps forum seach failed me!

the only thing i will say is that it doesnt look bad but it is modular and even PSU mfgs will say that while modual is better for looks it can have some impact on performance becuase of the extra resistance that the selective slot feature adds. to avoid that for $30 sits ok with me
