Well, since the 580 is here i am going to pull the trigger. Just wanted you guys to double check my build before I go ahead and order. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=455412
I went for the I 7 920 to save a few bucks. Is it correct that it will overcock about the same as the 950? Anything else to change? Thanks |

It is the same as the 950 and so the OC's should be the same.

If you are expecting 3.9GHz from a 920 it's doubtful.
The 950 and 920 are not the same, the 950 has a 23x multiplier while the 920 has a 20x. I would highly recommend the Corsair 750w (+$30) for long term stability and reliability, looks great otherwise. |

So raise the BCLK higher. A 186 BCLK is nothing special (turbo on, 21x multiplier on the 920). |

I'm confused. There have been 3.9ghz I've seen here. May not have been the 920, but I cannot see getting the 920 to 3.9ghz doubtful.

Could have changed but the batches we had not long ago struggled to get to 3.9.

Soooooooo, Mr Venom. What do the current 950 batches look like, eh? hehe
Does that mean the standard 750 you offer is kind of "bleh" in the long run, concerning stability and reliability? I ask because I just ordered (its in stage 5) a 950 system pretty much the same as the one in the original post with a GTX 470 card, so its a hair beefier than the one above, and I got the standard PSU as opposed to the Corsair. Should I be concerned in the "long term"? :) Edited by HazerX - 10 Nov 2010 at 4:47am |

I capitulate on the 920, it is from what I have seen the SAME chip speced and marketed differently. But I believe the silicon is the same in the 920 and 950.
Im basing this on data from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i7 And comments made by others here on the forums. Actualy OC's will vary from chip to chip but that is true for one 950 to the next as well. If you are trying to squeeze the most out of your dollars down to the dollar level, then the 920 is a good choice to replace the 950....especially considering Games in general and not CPU bound. I shall Henceforth change my wording to utilize the word "SIMILAR" Edited by MagiK - 10 Nov 2010 at 9:12am |
