Topic: Justin.Kerr - 980X Low GFlops Posted: 28 Sep 2010 at 8:20pm |
I am a bit confused by LinX... Before attempting 4.7GHz I was getting 105GFlops on the old linpack binaries at 4.4GHz. I saved those settings and after giving up on 4.7 for this chip I loaded those settings back and was now getting 43GFlops.
Upgraded the linpack binaries as suggested and currently getting 70GFlops @ 4.4GHz which is better, though that seems quite low compared to most.
Any Ideas?

RAM speed/timings uncore 1.5x or 2x? QPI is very low, that will help some to raise that. |

QPI is at 6.4GT/s unless you are referring to the bclock. Uncore currently is 1.5x, RAM speed is 1600MHz, timings are 9-9-9-24 2T.
Trying with 2x uncore now.

2x Uncore got me 80GFlops, though I am unable to POST above 4000MHz QPI . Trying to raise bclock now.

lol yeah QPI speed is touchy most will do 3600 easy, 3800 is good, and over 4000 is pretty tough, if you keep voltages inline. |

Back to 48GFlops with 193blclock, argh. I'll keep trying more tomorrow, thanks for the help.
Yea I remember trying to compete in EVGAs crazy QPI contest, and finally figuring out that the PCIE clock was key to getting over 4GHz, though by that time the contest was over lol. Edited by venom - 28 Sep 2010 at 9:17pm |

How do you keep Network and SATA from dropping out past ~110MHz PCIE?

Bit o luck, I suppose. Plus I'm sure some boards handle it better than others. I run Lilim at 120MHz with no issues. Good ol little Micro board. |

Bah these chips are picky. Currently on an EVGA Classified motherboard and any uncore past 1.5x gets stuck on POST Code 25. Any ideas on what to do to get past that?
Or maybe i'll just go back to the Rampage III...

With Vdroop
Vcore: 1.4375v VTT: +75mv DIMM: 1.65v CPU Multiplier: 27x Bclock: 157 Uncore: 18x Memory Ratio: 2:12 Timings: 9-9-9-24-2T SpeedStep: Disabled CxE: Disabled Virtualization: Disabled Execute Disable Bit: Disabled QPI Frequency: 4.8000GT/s (If it's not listed above it is set to Auto or the default setting.) Tried increasing to 19x uncore and it freezes on POST Code 25. Tried 24x, same thing. Tried increasing VTT, IOH, no different. Also interesting was that selecting the 2:14 Memory Ratio, setting DIMM voltage/timings with everything else stock/auto, it would freeze on 25. Already tried another motherboard, same issues occurred. |

+.250 is needed if the IMC is weak.
QPI PLL 1.25-1.3
IOH 1.25-1.3
VTT PWM 370Mhz
PCIE 105Mhz-107Mhz
MCH strap 1867Mhz

here is my newest 24/7 overclock.
by looking at the QPI link, and NB freq, you can extrapolate the multi's, and the basic RAM settings, and voltages.

I am now convinced EVGA has a bug in their BIOS. There is no way an increase in 1x on the uncore (18x->19x) would cause freezing on post when @ 18x it is LinX stable 5x pass. I tried multiple RAM/Uncore ratios, and each time once it is over 1.5x ram ratio, it doesn't post.
I tried VTT up to 300mv, IOH 1.3v, QPI 1.3v, and I even changed CPUs, no difference.

QPI over V core has nothing to do with stability, not how it works.
The 980x has had a lot of BIOS bugs with Evga boards, no question about it. takes time to get it to work, and some bugs will flat not allow it to work..

if my qpi is higher than my vcore, i dont test stable
i know its not supposed to matter, which is why i said it is "wierd" as you can see up there in my post
its just like baseclock holes, there are all kinds of quirks to different systems... i dont have to tell you that

Yea, already tried another motherboard, same result. Guess I'll switch back to the Rampage III or wait for the Classified3.
Thanks for the help. |

Now on a Rampage III. I must say, ASUS did a great job with this board, minus the weird heatsinks. Uncore is now able to be moved past 1.5x with ease, stable voltage, more accurate bios volt readings, more volt control, no post code led but the 4 indicator leds make up for that, easy multimeter points, on/off switches for pci-e lanes, the list goes on. :D

The classy has easy multi meter points, and PCIe on/off to. But overall the RE III is a better board, for the 980x Heat sinks? put it on water
The fine tuning on the voltages is a very nice feature.
how is the Gflops with the RE III?

At 4.6GHz with a 3.3GHz Uncore I was getting around 91GFlops. At 1.5x Uncore (~2.8GHz) I am getting ~80GFlops.
