Hello all,
I recently purchased a Protus workstation for SolidWorks/General CAD from this wonderful company, however an issues arose. This isn't a review, just some questions. The main reason I bought from DS was because of the SubZero cooling system, but I was informed after my purchase that there were no available water blocks for the Quadro 4000 GPU or the ASUS P6X58D Premium SLI chipset. So I'm ending up with, simply, the Stage 4 for the overclocked 980X. My question is: should I care? Is air cooling going to be just fine, or should I look into getting another manufacturer's water block for either component. I have only owned laptops and have had nothing but nightmares regarding temp issues, with my most recent laptop's Nvidia card frying up completely taking the motherboard and wireless card with it. I know the Protus is nothing like a laptop, and I did get the upgraded fan set, but I am nervous, and anything over 50c makes me cringe. I am no computer expert by any means; I'm actually a diesel mechanic/engineer, so please take that into consideration. Here are the other specs of the build: 12G DDR3 2000mhz RAM 1200 psu 80G SSD 1.5T 10,000 rpm HDD Forte 7.1 sound card Thanks in advance. |

You only need extreme aftermarket cooling if you're trying to overclock the crap out of something.

@Dragoonseal, thank you for helping.
@PullZeGward,
I completely understand your concerns, and our techs do as well. During stress-testing, our techs record the temps on your hardware such as: CPU, Memory, Chipset, Voltage Regulators, Video Cards, etc and if they are above a threshold, our QA team will not allow them to ship the system.
Everything will be perfectly fine. I hope this helps clarify any concerns.

Nice!
I'm just a bit spooked by my recent computer casualty. |
