My new Digital Storm computer should ship any day now and it uses the HAF 932 case, which I selected for its fantastic airflow and great overall reviews. After owning a cramped Dell 435mt with a hot-running ATI Radeon HD 4850, a huge case with tons of airflow is highly appealing, but I'm also a bit worried. We have 3 cats including one Ragdoll, which has long, super-fine, rabbit-like fur. I'm wondering if regular cleaning around/inside the case will be enough, or if the open design of the case could lead to stuff getting sucked in and trapped in tough to see/reach places like these photos. Should I invest in a "breathable" CPU cover or am I being paranoid? They're not the sexiest things in the world and the cats haven't killed a computer or component to date (at least not so far as I've ever known), but the HAF 932 has such an open design that it's kind of scary. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh dear lord NO. That'll choke your rig and make it a heat sandwich at the same time. All dust filters regardless WILL reduce your air intake significantly.
I've seen a couple of people make remarks that the HAF 932 doesn't really attract that much dust in fact. In your case though, possibly a few a few dust covers designed for the HAF932 would help (not cheap, but they are specifically designed for the HAF's intakes), but I'd certainly advocate against a whole tower cover. Hi kittykatmax,
I have the 922 HAF and a Cat that sleeps on the computer desk. He runs past the computer to get to any paper coming from the printer. I get some dust inside the case but I don't recall ever finding any hairs. But even dust is not much of a problem inside of the case. The holes on the front are small and dust collects on the front of the case at the fan. A quick swipe with the vacuum and that takes care of it. An occasional cleaning of the inside is all I have to do. Frank Edited by FrankW - 04 Jan 2011 at 7:28pm |

Thanks for the feedback. Think I'll wait and see how things go. If I see dust/hair is an issue, I'll get the special dust covers that ablahblah linked.
My PC is at Stage 7 so I guess I will be finding out soon enough. I can't wait to get it!
Thanks again for the input. :)

@kittykatmax, those photos look like a pc from somebody who never bothered to clean their pc in 5 years, clean your pc once a week, for 2 minutes and you won't have that problem, I have dog and cat and hair and dust are huge problem, but I clean once a week, so what problem |

I know....poor frog and poor motherboard!
I've worked in IT for over 20 years. I've cleaned computers (not mine) filled with one giant dust bunny or covered in spilled food and coffee. Thank God I've been spared some of the other things people were talking about on that site...like taking apart machines and finding them roach infested. I'm not afraid of critters, but bugs? I would have lost my mind.....

Yeah, I have to do regular cleaning on my system because I have 3 cats and a lot of dust. So it does require a lot of cleaning and it can get in to the system if you do not take care of it.

Cats are a ton of extra housework (especially if you're a clean freak like I am), but the little buggers are worth it. :)

There is a video on youtube where a guy shows how he made filters for the front grilles on the HAF 932.Pretty simple and would probably keep most cat hair out of the case.
