Topic: Liquid Cooling Posted: 22 Mar 2011 at 9:54pm |
Hi guys, I'm about to write a review on my pc, and I want to know what you guys think about my temps. I have the frostchill (or frostbite (same thing)) CPU only liquid cooling system, and I was wondering how my temps compare to yours. I have a i7-950 @3.06 Ghz (stock speed), and in this picture it is running idle. I turned my pc on, and let it run for 1 hour. The only thing I did was open internet explorer. My room temp is 24 C. So are my temps good? How does the sub zero system compare?
Thanks

Idle temperatures mean nothing.
Use RealTemp instead of HWMonitor. Run Linx or Prime95 for a bit to give us load temps. You run LCing on a stock clock CPU? Temps are going to be low as hell regardless. EDIT: Ugh, bullet point formating is still screwed up. Edited by Dragoonseal - 22 Mar 2011 at 10:01pm |

As Dragoonseal stated, can you use RealTemp and either do a Linx or Prime95 run so we can take a look at you load temps? Let us know if you need any help.

I currently have no time to run a test with prime95, but aren't my idle temps a bit high, especially since I have liquid cooling? Also what is more accurate, looking at the core temps or at the general cpu temps ( two tabs above core temps in hwmonitor) |

im not saying they are high, but i have a stock i7-950 with liquid cooling, shouldn't they be a bit lower?

Core temps is what you want to look at. RealTemp is usually more accurate from what others have said.
CPU temp will also depend on the ambient room temp. Looking at HWMonitor though, the temps seem about right at idle. You could try applying some different thermal paste, which may lower it a few more degrees. |

well if the temps so far seem ok I will leave it how it is, I am only 14 and I don't want to remove the waterblock and apply new thermal paste. |

haha i like how we are getting more and more younger kids on here. i'm 15 and ablabla is somewhere around there too.
Yea idle has way too many uncontrollable variables. What matters is load. |

i will be honest with you maxyme, I know that load is important, the idle temps just show, well idle temps, but I didn't want to run prime95. This is my first pc that has LC and I am not familair with the temps, and I just thought that with liquid cooling they would be a bit cooler. my room is small and gets hot easily, so after running my pc for 2 hours it gets hot, so I don't want to run prime95 yet. But i will in the future.
Hey if you have some spare time, I am planning to get a new gpu, and I don't know what to chose, I saved up some cash, and i am thinking gtx 570 or radeon 6970 on a 750 watt psu. Which do you think is better?

i'm going the 6950 w/ flash route because its a hell of a lot cheaper $265 than anything else with decent performance. But you have to be careful as the window is closing. They have next generation 6950s out without the dual bios that brick with the 6970 firmware. Also yes there is a risk but its worth it as i see it. I'll be flashing mine in a week after spring break. Ordered it a few days ago and it shipped today off newegg.
But performance wise the 6950 is slightly worse than the 570 and the 6970 is better than the 570 but worse than the 580. Plus you can't use cuda encoding for amd cards which sucks but oh well. but they all are pretty close within each other. |

so you guys think the core temps are good? also if I increase the fan speed on my radiator, will the temps go down a resonable amount? Or should I just leave it how it is? |

flashing a 6950 to 6970 is not all that easy, and will null the warranty of the card, fyi.

OK, before I can even upgrade my gpu, I want to make sure the things I already have work well, and the cpu is hotter than I expected. I have NOT overclocked my cpu, and I a cpu vcore of 1.33V, this is my first i7 systerm. My idle temps range from 34-41 C, and that is when I statd Hwmonitor, after a few mins it heats up more! I have not tried prime95 yet, but I am afraid to, I have LC but my temps are still higher than I thought. I looked around the web a bit, and found out that others also have this problem.
How should I lower my temps?
Should I run prime95, if so for how long? (I am 14 and I have never used prime, and I don't want to overheat my new pc)

Fil1p, has multiple people have all said multiple times now, idle temperatures mean nothing and tell us nothing, your CPU temps do not look "high" just looking at the idle temps. Until you take a few minutes to run a CPU stress test you need to stop flipping out.
Just download Prime95 and run the Blend "Torture test", it should give you the option right away when you start it up, if not it's under the Options menu. Run RealTemp to watch the CPU temps, you'll be fine with anything under 90°C, if it gets too warm just stop running Prime95. It can take a surprisingly long time to really reach max peak temps, but you'll get a good idea what kind of temps to expect within 20 minutes. |

i dont know about you guys but those idle temps seem a bit high with a non over clocked processor. But like everyone else said see what the load temps go up to and report back =)

if we are talking about his idle temps of 45c and around there, that depends on his room temp, when my room temp is 75f or higher my idle temps are around his.
however if room temp is 70f or lower, then my temps are fairly lower too. however again we are talking idle temps, so they don't mean much, sometimes they indicate higher load temps sometimes they don't. Edited by DST4ME - 26 Mar 2011 at 2:50am |
