Topic: Upgrading my gaming pc Posted: 13 Nov 2013 at 9:19am |
I've had my digital storm pc since 2010 now. I use to be able to play games on high/very high settings depending on the game. After playing more recent games like Metro: Last Light, I can only play games on medium settings now. The games still look great, but I need to start upgrading.
Now I can't go all out with purchasing every upgrade. I have to purchase things one at a time, get the best power with the minimum amount of money needed, though I'm sure I'm gonna have to spend some money. Nothing comes cheap. Budget: $100-$350 Expectations: To play new games on high settings Usage: Playing games like Metro Last Light, Rome 2: Total War, and other new games My old PC build: Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 Micro Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600 MHz Video card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition Thank you to anyone that suggests what to do. |

Hi Z Warrior.... Your biggest bang for the buck would be a graphics card upgrade. The gtx 770, about $350, would be a substantial boost over the HD 5850. If that's stretching your budget then the gtx 760 is also way above your card.
Not sure your monitor, but on a 1920x1080 monitor, you won't max out settings but high to very high is possible.
Make sure your psu is up to it, though. At least a 600watt psu with a 42 amp, 12 volt rail is recommended.
You mobo has Pcie 2,0 slots and the new cards are Pcie3.0, but they are backward compatible with no performance loss.
Hope this helps.

my power supply is 750W. Don't know the amp or volt it has.
My monitor goes on 1920*1080. I don't mind my pc not running max settings at the moment. At long as it runs on high to very high. Thank you for recommending what item to get first. I'll check online to see where to get it at the best price. |

I agree with bprat, the GTX 760 and 770 would be great at 1080p!
