The GTX 1070 is an excellent value with a lot of power. It should be good for gaming at resolutions up to 2560 x 1440.

Thats what I plan to get. I was just unsure whether I needed to upgrade other components like power supply or cpu etc in order to run the 1070.

Nope, you can run that system with a GTX 1070 on less than 350W. If you overclock the 1070, it may use a little more, but the 500W PSU should be able to handle it.
