I'm looking to replace my antique 3ghz Pentium 4 Smile with something that will run the games I like without a hiccup. I'm also waiting for Win7 to be preinstalled so hopefully my old rig will make it to the end of the month.

I have a new Samsung syncmaster 2433. 24" at 1600X1200.
My favorite games are:
Everquest 2 - At minimum graphics setting I currently max at 15 fps. I'd like to run at extreme graphics at 30+ fps.

Flight Simulator 2004 and FSX.

Sins of a Solar Empire

My price target is $2200 to $2500.

I7 with 6gb 1600 ram?
What would you suggest?

You sure the navitve res of that syncmaster is 1600 x 1200?

Thanks for the reply.
Everquest 2 most likely does not support SLI. I would not expect FS 2004, Sins may since it is not that old.

Everquest 2 (Kithicor server)has historically not been a big gpu user. That is why I was looking for an overclocked I7 with 6gb of fast ram.

There appears to be only small differences between your suggested configuration and the package deal I7 extreme 3 for $2158.
Water cooler, a 295 graphics card, and a 1TB system drive.

Any advantages or disadvantages on that setup?

Thanks again!

the psu in my config is better quality, 2 x 275 out performe a 295, specially in games that don't support sli, since a 295 is in an internal sli.

personally I don't much care fore asetek cooler, I rather get Noctua NH-U12P or frostbite.

but extreme 3 is still a good build

Ok now that win7 is available is that still a good build for the money? Looking to purchase soon. Admins can chime in as well since this would be my first custome build purchase. I think I'm done with the HP and sony systems.

if your res is 1900 x 1200 then you need 2 x 275 or a single 5870.
