Ok guys,
Just ordered my first comp from DS! I have usually built my own rigs, but this one needed a bit more knowledge than I would be accustomed to! That and being a new dad, the last thing i can worry about is piecing together a machine ATM! But alas, I digress. The beast, just ordered today. I will share a review, pictures and thoughts once I receive. What a long December it will be! Congrats on the new Rig!! I would recommend possibly a change in the SSD to the Samsung 840Pro as it is known to be quicker (and possibly more reliable). Definitely don't forget the FREE t-shirt!!
Don't forget to come back a share a review and pics of your mega machine! |

Alex, if you're around this weekend, question. I got an email from a Joe in CS saying that the new black edition motherboard does not have a waterblock made for the chipset yet. Any way around this as I was hoping for the black edition. If you can inquire about getting that chipset watercooled I would truly appreciate it.
Edit - Regardless if the chipset can be watercooled, I would like to stick with the black edition. I do not plan on OC'ing to the point where I would need the chipset watercooled anyways. If it can be done, bonus. I know EK should have a waterblock out for the black mid December. If you guys could possibly get your hands on one I can see waiting a bit. If not then I'm just going to proceed with just the cpu and gpu's watercooled. BTW Alex my order number is --------- :) Edited by Alex - 07 Dec 2013 at 11:03am |

I'm sure if there's one coming and you're willing to wait, DS will get it done for you. I know I got mine done but had to wait for it to be released.

We might not have that in-stock for a while, unless you want us to special order it from an e-tailer for you which will cost more money including special order fees.
We can always do it without the chipset water block. |

No problem, yes if you could inquire for me I would be willing to incur the special order fees. Please e-mail me at [email protected] or here to let me know any progress. I obviously would like to water block the chipset, but if it's a long wait I'd rather just proceed on with a fan cooled chipset on the rampage black. Let me know. |

It's going to take at least 2-3 weeks from what I assume. I would love to email you about it but our team would know better than me. I suggest contacting them directly via Request Help: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/request-help.asp

In your honest opinion, if this was your new rig, would you get a much older extreme with a watercooled chipset or the new black with an air cooled chipset? Mind you I wouldn't really be pushing the cpu at all. If anything I would just OC the gpu's. |

If it is only a few weeks wait, I'd get the new black with the water-cooled chipset...

Yea I think I'll wait. At this point, waiting a couple more weeks to know everything is watercooled will bring that much more peace of mind. Though the wait will be tough. Must. Learn. Patience.

Well after having conversations with Gerardo and Mike, I'm going with the new black but without a watercooled chipset. They said it most likely would be a month till they receive that, then the time to piece together the system from there. In my experience unless you're Kingpin or someone doing extreme overclocking, watercooling the chipset is more of an aesthetic. You tried fstcvc. :)

That is going to be a killer system. You got all the bells and whistles. One thing you might add to your order for $30.00 is the EVGA SLI bridge that lights up the LOGO. The power comes from the cards.

So a little update guys. I was going to go with the new black motherboard, but have decided to revert back to the original extreme for a few reasons. Firstly, in my heart, I could not get past not having the chipset watercooled for those just in case moments where it might be needed. Secondly the delay for getting an ek waterblock could take anywhere from 1 to 2 months depending on when it passes their testing phase. I swapped e-mails with an ek employee who said it's taking awhile. And thirdly, my friend has a black, and his post times are not painfully long but noticeable. It might be a setting he has about which on board devices he has enabled/disabled ect. But nevertheless I'm confident in the original extreme to address what I need. I'll keep everyone updated as the process continues.

Question for Alex or anyone that might know. In the review done by bally with his aventum, did that wooden freight container come standard or is that an upcharge? Also since I live in South Florida is this going to be a purely ground freight or is this going to be some sort of air freight shipped to Miami then delivered by freight truck to my door?

The wooden freight service is actually a different shipping option, it's called "Freight" on our website, we can change you to it, just let our team know.
All Freight is usually sent via truck, not air from my understnading. |

So on my receipt it states 'Freight delivery'. Is the wooden freight service this or is that above and beyond what I have? If so what is the standard 'Freight' delivered in, just a standard box?
Edit* Nevermind I see that the 399.99$ Freight delivery is what Bally had, which is what I have. So I guess I'm good to go. Edited by sanddevil - 15 Dec 2013 at 9:08pm |

The standard freight service is the normal box strapped to a pallet to keep the computer from being flipped over... I had mine shipped that way and it arrived in perfect condition (even the box looked like brand new compared to what the packaging usually looks like when shipped via standard ground).
