I have been researching virtual reality requirement for months ..and months.. to get ready for the Oculus and future VR platforms. I must of "pretend" built over a hundred configurations on this site.Hours, of adding, taking away, scrapping and starting over to get the best for my budget range.
I came across this read on build demands, frame rate outlook and just a over all sense of the massive rig someone might need for a smooth, detailed experience. I thought it may come in handy for others building in the same situation. PC for Virtual Reality |

Alex, I would like to ask, Out of all the digital storm line which rig would you choose and what would you upgrade in a build with a 5k'ish price point? Knowing that by the time VR is SLI compatible, you'd be switching over to a pascal architecture card ( depending on final spec's of course ) I am thinking of scrapping this build below https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1360817 Then start over with adding the new nvm pcie sdd Do not care if it is a Velox or not. Ive toyed around with them all. The Velox and Hailstorm the most. Aesthetics do not matter in this build. |

they're saying a $600 pc can run whatever (software) is coming out for the retail version of Occulus, at least for the first 2 years. umm...ok. still catering to the lowest common denominator i see. at least their "low end" is reasonably decent (a 970 or 390 gpu) to run it, but whatever happened to software that pushes what today's best hardware is capable of. peasants have consoles to keep them happy for goodness sake!
