Heya guys

Been looking to upgrade my current desktop as my previous one sputtered after a good 5 year run. Was thinking about building one myself, but just don't have time so I'm here looking to purchase a custom build.

My question is in choosing between the i7-5820K and the i7-5930K for my CPU. The 5930K is about $250 more expensive. Number of cores and L3 cache are the same, and the 5930 also has a faster base clock (3.5Ghz vs 3.3Ghz). However it seems to me that they can both be overclocked to the same speeds without issue. The only other benefit I see with the 5930K is the 40 PCIe lanes vs the 28 for the 5820K. I'm not looking into a triple or quad graphics card configuration, I think a single GPU is enough for my sake (maybe I'll look into dual).

So with that all being said, are there any other differences I'm overlooking between the CPU's? I'm trying to figure out why there's such an extreme price difference between the two when they seem to be mostly similar CPU's. Anything I'm missing?

Thanks!

Hi macaddress.     That's a good question and has a pretty straight forward answer.  Big%20Smile

The only difference is the number of Pcie lanes just like you said.    For a single card or even 2 cards in sli, save some money and go with the 5820k.   Cards today don't saturate even 8 lanes of Pcie 3.0,  so the 16 lanes for single,  same as the 5930k, or an 8 lane connection in sli is all you need.

Hope this helps. Big%20Smile

Edit.... a triple card you would want the 5930k.
