Most of those components are outdated and I don't even think DS carries them anymore. Intel updated their CPUs (4770K) & nVidia did the same with their GPUs (GTX 770). Here's a more updated build: 873175.

Here is a review we did of the GTX 770 compared to the GTX 760 and GTX 670.
GTX 770 Review You can see that the GTX 770 is a vast improvement over the GTX 670. What size of a monitor will you be gaming on? |

I need a slightly smaller chassis with the dimensions like my previous config or smaller (19.1 X 8.3 X 17.7). I plan on using a 23' monitor.
Thanks. Jim |

If your space requires a smaller case, I'd recommend the Virtue case (Corsair 350D) along with the H100i cooler (the gigantic air coolers won't fit such narrow cases). 873487 Ask DS to install an extra fan in the front of the case for improved airflow.

Thank You. How many USB ports are included on the front and back?

The build fstcvc showed you, config # 873487, would have 2x USB 3.0 on the front of the 350D case and 4x USB 2.0 and 4x USB 3.0 on the back with the Gryphon mobo.

Thank you. Should I up the SSD to a 256k? Would you go with the ASUS or Samsung? Any other final thoughts or recommendations on the latest build #873487?

fstcvc showed you an awesome build. Not much to say except, if in the budget, a larger SSD is always better. They fill quick. You mean Corsair or Samsung? Either are good. Samsung gives you a little more storage for the money.
keep us updated. |

If you got the dough get the 256SSD - Samsung is preferred as it has been tested to be slightly quicker and has a slightly better reliability record. It's also the preferred model by many on these forums...

I just ordered the system and informed by DS that the only way the cooling system will fit is to take the extra bay. They suggested going to the 120. I'm not a fan of losing the bay. Is the 120 sufficient? Or is there another case that's roughly the same footprint.

The 120 should be fine. Not sure what you'd ever need another bay for as you'll already have a dvd/blu-ray player. Using the 240, your system would look like the pictures of the Virtue with the drive in the lower bay. In ~20 years of owning various computers, I've never used more than one bay for a disc drive.

IDK either. So you would go with the 240 and give up the bay?

I would - bigger cooler means happier CPU (not saying the 120 wouldn't keep it cool, just that the 240 would do it easier and more efficiently). I almost didn't even put a blu-ray drive in my build but thought I might watch a movie once or twice and would be convenient to have. I don't even use discs much anymore as everything is online or downloadable.

Thanks fstcvc! I cancelled the order entirely due to inconsistent answers and generally unknowledgeable staff at DS when I called them back to discuss it. I'm a little surprised based upon all the rantings about DS service but I don't appreciate the experience when I'm planning on laying out my hard earned cash.
Thanks again for your help! Jim |

Everybody has their own opinions and different levels of knowledge (especially when it comes to cooling a system). Some people prefer air cooled only and to the amount of cooling one needs. What were the inconsistencies you were getting? I would guess not everyone working there has a degree in "Bad Ass Computer Building" but should know the basics of configuring a system. I know that Alex, Gerardo & John are all excellent and truly know the ins-n-outs on highly customized computers (I'm sure others have dealt with these guys amongst others). I think you should contact Alex [email protected] to see if he can straighten out anything you might find questionable.

Brute Force,
I understand your concerns. Everyone will have different options when the question being asked could possibly be subjective based on personal experiences, etc... We would hate to loose you as a customer, feel free to contact me directly and I'll be more than happy to help: [email protected] . On a different note, I respect your thoughts, but I disagree with your statement that we have an unknowledgeable staff. Our guys are definitely very talented, you may have spoken with a newer staff member perhaps. Feel free to reach out to me for help with your configuration. |

I spoke with Gerardo this AM and I'm going ahead with the 120mm Vortex. His feeling was that there would be minimal difference in cooling between the two with my configuration and I keep my options open on the bay.
fstcvc-thanks again for your help. I really appreciate your input. I'm not sure what I'll use the bay for but I have it if I need it, LOL. Alex-I'll be happy to discuss my first experience if you want to call me. That said, I'm good with the response I received from Gerardo and we're moving forward! |

Congrats on your purchase and it's good to see you back! Gerardo definitely knows his stuff (he's the first person I had contact with when looking at getting a DS system). Your system choices are excellent and will provide enjoyment for a long time.
