You accidentally unselected the single best option available in the configurer. Shoot them an email to add the free CPU overclock back on. |

That said, Dragoonseal, I want and need you and ender to sell that on me. I'm thinking longevity, and despite !ender's guide saying that an OC'd PC will last 4+ years, I really need you guys to give me incentive to do that. I'm all ears, I assure you, but I really need you to tell me why thats a "good idea". Again, I'm all ears, but I'm obviously quite reluctant to do that.
Lemme know, the order is in, and again, I'm all ears, but I really need to be sold on that. Other than, I can choose to do it myself later. |

Ah, well it's an easy sell. That 4+ years estimation is very conservative. These CPUs are rated for what, like 10 years at stock settings with the stock cooler? With that NH-U12P your overclocked CPU would be running cooler than a stock CPU with stock cooler. Noctua coolers are just that good.
That's the whole point getting a good cooler, you get a huge CPU speed increase with no drawbacks and for relatively little money, they're a great buy. They're also significantly quieter than the stock cooler! |

yup
cooler
quieter
but most importantly, to me anyway:
stock performance on a 920 will get beat by an overclocked q6600
remember those? from 4 or more years ago?
so much power is wasted by leaving a chip that is basically designed for overclocking on stock, my favorite example, if you are at all versed in manual transmissions:
think of driving your car with your gas pedal locked at 50% and only 1st and 3rd gear, thats stock performace.
furthermore, stock performance less safe than a well-tuned overclock as it uses voltages determined by your motherboard and changes dynamically to match your load. not a clumsy system by any means, but not as secure as a proper overclock
you dont have to push temperatures and voltages to any extreme to get 40% more power out of i7 chips

In this case the guys are right (as is usual) Over Clocking gives you something for nothing...or at least very little, with the investment in a proper cooler (not stock) you get far better performance. AND the "Free" Overclock offered by DS is not very extreme at all. The CPU will most likely outlive its usefulness. Yes occasionally there are faulty parts but those will bite you even if you dont OC.

Funny you should mention the Q6600, cause thats whats in my current PC and its not OC'd.
I have contacted DSO and asked them to do the stage 1 OC. Thanks again for all the assistance guys. DSO Should be paying you if they arent. Or at least give you an occassional reach around. lol :P |

Just to be sure, the free one, right? Cause they still have the non-free version of the Stage 1 OC in the configurer for some reason. |

Absolutely the free one. I even stated "FREE Stage One" in the request I sent. ;)
I already spent more money than I intended I wasn't about to spend anymore, unless I wanted to bring the ire of the wife down on me. lol |

Intel's silicon design is 30 year life expectancy. Heat and voltage will determine how much you add or subtract from that figure.

Quick question regarding the Stage process.
While I'm anxious I'm just curious if Stage 1 is an all day process or if it takes a couple days to get through Stage 1. The $$ was taken off my card this morning (west coast time) and as of this evening I'm still in stage 1. Thats fine that I am, I'm just wondering how expedient these things are. I'm also aware I'm not the only guy buying a PC from them right now too. hehe |
