Topic: Just Ordered an Aventum 3 ! ! Posted: 27 May 2016 at 12:24am |
Hello! everyone. ^^b
Finally after months of research, selecting parts, visiting multiple online custom PC builders, and waiting for the release of PC parts, especially the GTX 1080. I finally pulled the trigger and bought an Aventum 3! Here's my config: [anything not mentioned was opted out off] Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Aventum 3 Exterior Finish: Black Metallic Matte Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 6900K 3.2GHz Motherboard: ASUS X99 RAMPAGE V Edition 10 (Intel X99 Chipset) System Memory: 32GB DDR4 2666MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum DHX Power Supply: 1200W Corsair AX1200i (Digitally Controlled Power) Optical Drive: Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (512GB Samsung 950 PRO) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD (512GB Samsung 850 PRO) Storage Set 3: 1x SSD (512GB Samsung 850 PRO) RAID Config: RAID 0: Striping: for Performance RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port Graphics Card(s): 2x SLI Dual (GeForce GTX 1080 8GB (NVIDIA Founders Edition) (VR Ready) [w/Nvidia's SLI-HB Bridge] Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: HydroLux PRO: Exotic Custom Cooling System (2x Graphics Cards + CPU) HydroLux Tubing Style: Flexible Tubing (Requires HydroLux Liquid Cooling System) HydroLux Fluid Color: White Fluid (Requires HydroLux Liquid Cooling System) Cable Management: Exotic Cable Management - White - (Cable Combs with Custom Color Sleeved Extension Cables) Chassis Fans: Corsair SP Fans, expect the 2 fans in the rear behind the Motherboard. For those I'll be going with the Thermaltake RGB Riing Fans. - But may upgrade to Noctua NF-A14 IPPC 2000RPM 3-pin Fans, for all of the fans in the future. Internal Lighting: Digital Storm RGB LED Lighting System Airflow Control: Digital Storm Thermal Mngt Control Board & Sftwr CPU Boost: Stage 2: Overclock CPU - Up to 4.8GHz Graphics Boost: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) OS Boost: Yes, Disable and tweak all of the non-crucial services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) And last but not least: a 'Digital Storm' T-shirt. ^^b Now the waiting: I'll have to wait for the case to re-stock, and the GTX 1080s are hopefully not back-ordered, but I will still have to wait for the GTX 1080 Waterblocks to come out; as well as, Nvidia's new SLI-HB bridges to release. Possible Additions: Case Fans to Noctura ones. I will also be adding Internal HDDs for more secure long-term storage and for Backup. I think I can manage installing that by myself. lol Use-wise: I am going for an overkill for Gaming mostly, with some WorkStation stuff, like photo/video editing/rendering and Virtual Machine using. I'll be gaming in either 4K maxed-out settings, but more likely then not, on maxed-out settings using a 3440x1440 UltraWide-QHD displays; since, I want to play at ~100fps and like the 21:9 aspect ratio. Also, I have an HTC Vive, just need a computer to play in on. lol May get an Oculus Rift when the 'Touch' controls come out. Unless having a Vive or a Rift is enough for great VR'ing and/or neither offers substantial gains over the other. Difficulties: I had a hard time deciding on flexible vs hardline tubing, but went with the flexible tubing due to its ease of upgrading CPU/GPUs in the future. As well as for maintenance reasons. And lastly, as it will be my first time dealing with a liquid-cooled PC. Shipping & Delivery: Also, planning to drive the several hours to SF to personally pickup the Aventum 3, as I will feel more reassured with it in my hands than in others. lol Question: Do others have experience with their "OS Boost" option? Hopefully, they let me know what's disabled or removed just in case? Also, a very great thank you to Brian from Live-Chat and John from Customer & Technical Services for their help and for taking their time to answer all of my questions. - UPDATES - Ordered: 05/27/2016 Stage 1: 05/27/2016 Stage 2: 05/30/2016 Stage 3: 05/30/2016 Stage 4: Pending... Sure I'll post some pictures. If things go well, I may receive it sometime in July. Yeah! I probably will laugh when I get it, due to it sheer awesomeness. I was planning on taking my SUV alone. I hope the nice people at Digital Storm can help me put it in my car. lol |

Well, the new EKWB for the GTX 1080 GPUs are out today as well. But they say they aren't compatible with the new SLI-HB Bridges?
Why would they do that? unless they are just playing it safe and just saying that because they don't have the actual Bridges at hand to test, so they can only guess it dimensional requirements? |

That is true, they do not fit. We are having to resort to using the standard SLI bridges. There should not be any large performance loss, per NVIDIA, at most around 5% in benchmarking. |

DUAL GTX 1080's not using the SLI-HB brides won't suffer, as Alex said. With the new VR rendering and imaging tech in the GTX 1080's, it will just resort to using PCI-e bandwidth... which, since you only have two cards won't even remotely be an issue. 5% loss across both cards = a max of maybe 5 FPS total loss at any one time.

Alex & Meller, thank you.
That's good to hear. Maybe a flexible SLI-HB Bridge is possible in the future? but the rigid ones just look so much better. Or maybe other waterblock makers will take into account the needed dimensions to allow for the new SLI-HB rigid Bridges? Edited by DF_pc - 27 May 2016 at 10:40am |

Not sure at this time. I'm sure NVIDIA will offer a revised SLI bridge in the future so you can install it yourself later if needed.

That would be great!
Thank you again. Maybe in the future, I will add a 3rd GPU. Not sure though, if 3-way SLI vs Dual SLI + 1xGPU [dedicated for PhysX only] is better, as I haven't really looked into it. Or maybe just upgrade to the latest GPU(s) at that time. ^^ Edited by DF_pc - 27 May 2016 at 10:56am |

The placement of the water terminal on the EVGA Hydro Copper cards maybe different and allow for the SLI HB bridge.

Don't do that. You can enable 3 way SLI with the 1080's. Don't waste your money on a dedicated phsyx card. Phsyx is such a lightweight process used these days, compared to when it first came out, that you'd be wasting your money for damn near no performance gain by buying a dedicated PhsyX card. |

Grats and welcome to hell. As this is will be the absolute worst part of your entire experience here with DS. I truly hope you're prepared.
Now that the scary text is out of the way, this is technically the second to worst part. Not because anything bad is happening but because you're waiting... and waiting... and waiting. There is only one thing worse... and that's when you get the shipping notification. I hope you're ready. ;) Also, you're technically not part of the family unless you've been here for years or until you've shared a picture unboxing and review of your PC. FYI, we like pictures... we love video. Amateur or not... we love them all. |

Unfortunately, the Aventum 3 case is on back-order, so it will be a really long wait too. ^^; So it will be awhile before I have it in my hands and can upload/post anything about it here. Edited by DF_pc - 27 May 2016 at 3:13pm |

@ db188 Hi, I read some of your post. And I am also planning on picking up my Aventum 3 in person too. I read you tried it with your Dodge Durango. I was planning on taking a Toyota RAV4 to pick it up. A Durango appears larger than a RAV4. I believe the dimensions of the Aventum 3 box is about: 38"x35"x18". The room in my RAV4 is about 44"x38"x[the height is no problem of course]. Therefore, I feel I should be able to fit the box in my car. However, since you mentioned it didn't fit in your Durango, then not sure what to do?? Was it your Durango's space actually not big enough or are the box dimensions bigger than I stated above?? Thanks again. --------------------- @ Alex Hi, Alex. Could you give me the exact dimensions of the Aventum 3 box?? Thank you again. |

there were some concerns voiced by DS, but i don't know for sure if it had been boxed if it would've fit lying down (it probably would've as you said the Durango is pretty wide). i wouldn't recommend transporting it upright unless you can secure it well.

I would just take my limo bus, get a case of beer, get there, get a tour, meet the guys that build my pc, give'em a beer and shake their hand, put the pc in the limo, connect it up and enjoy it all the way home playing my fav games and posting up pics here in the forum, heck I might even bring some people on my way that need their pc picked up also, bp pack your bags I know you would be going
That sucker fits 24 people or 20 people and my pc Edited by DST4ME - 02 Aug 2016 at 1:31am |

The box is way larger than the pc. You might fit it better in the rear seat forgetting the box. The width is average, it is the height and length that are big. Like db says, try to keep upright and strapped tightly. Maybe put a board under it to protect your seat since it is heavy and has sharp corners.
I would take DST's offer and ride in style. |

Okay, thanks. So upright is a no-go. Then I'll go with lying it down in the back. Here is what I'm thinking: - worse case scenario, I'll have to unbox it to make it fit, and that should definitely work, as the Aventum 3 PC's dimensions are: 28.4"x25.8”x 10” |
