A laptops single advantage is portability. If you don’t need to lug it around, a desktop is less expensive by a good degree for the same performance, easy to work on and most importantly for most, the ability to upgrade it for years as newer video cards are released.
Upgradable laptops is a marketing ploy for most. In a few years any new video card or cpu needs a new laptop designed to accommodate it. Desktops can be upgraded for many years. |

bprat22 nailed it in my opinion.
Do you need/want to frequently move your PC around? Do you travel a lot and need your gaming PC with you? Are you willing to move around a laptop that is much heavier than normal laptops to do both of these things? Unless you answer yes to at least 2 out of the 3 of those questions, I can't think of an instance where a gaming laptop is superior to a desktop - and even then, as someone who finds himself moving a lot, I still gave up on gaming laptops 10 years ago. |

Both excellent responses.
My only input is that if you don't need the portability, don't ever buy a laptop for gaming. Edited by Snaike - 02 Dec 2017 at 11:16pm |
