I bought a Vanquish II level 2 three years ago and was looking for an upgrade
Budget: $1000 to $2000
Expectations: I want my computer to have internal wireless internet capabilities and to play sound without an external speaker.
Usage: Internet, gaming, recording games, and photo editing.
Special Needs: None I was looking at this: https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1721073 Edited by silverfire - 01 Aug 2017 at 6:02am |

If you're gaming on a 1080p monitor and want High to Max gaming with some of the
latest, graphically intense games, I would spend a bit more and get the gtx 1060, if not the 1070. The 1060 is a big jump over the 1050ti, the 1070 another big jump over the 1060. You'll need to add a Wireless card in the config to get wireless. Or add your own after delivery. To get sound you'll need speakers or a monitor with speakers. HDMI will carry the video and audio to your screen with speakers. Good Luck. |

So I need to have speakers. I was hoping to reduce the amount of wires near my desktop but I took another look at the speaker options. I didn't know about speakers with a headphone jack.
Taking your advice, I now have this configuration: https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1721351 Edited by silverfire - 01 Aug 2017 at 9:07am |

Looks good. The gtx 1070 is a strong card. You'll be glad you picked it.
Couple of smaller details.......I would select the CD option under Recovery. If your drive dies then the partition for restore dies with it. Good to have a backup CD to boot to. The Corridium is a real nice case. If you want , add the internal lighting for a little bling. |

Thank you very much. I'm surprised that the CD option under Recovery isn't the default then.
I'm going to wait until payday to place an order. I'm also glad I can pay in installments now because I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. |

I didn't know about that sale. How long is it going to be?
I'm thinking about dropping the 240 GB SSD so the desktop is more affordable and also see if the 96 GB SSD and 2 terabyte hard drive that I already have still work when I get it. Edited by silverfire - 04 Aug 2017 at 3:55am |

All right, there will be pictures.
So I have a couple more questions.Firstly, I have a spare hard drive and was wondering how hard would it be to install it in the third slot. Secondly, I was looking in the Must have software thread. Is ESET still recommended for the antivirus/firewall? I currently use Avast. |

We'll see about that third slot. The desktop is now in stage 2. I'll try the trial period of ESET when I get the new desktop.

Adding the hdd should be no issue. The pc should recognize when it starts.
I use MS Security Essentials. You should get it soon. |

Try unplugging both the monitor and pc from the wall. Plug the monitor into the graphics card, plug in and turn on the monitor and then turn on the pc.
Make sure the monitor cable is seated correctly into the monitor. |

The monitor says vga no signal. I'm going to order another adapter and HDMI cable. The monitor and pc are plugged in a power strip. The adapter didn't quite fit on the new pc.

Are you using a blue vga adapter and vga port on the pc ? If so, you need to plug the monitor into the graphic card's hdmi, display port, dvi. The vga port is on the motherboard and is disabled with a graphics card.
Just asking since it does happen frequently. |

Yes. You don't want to use the video ports near the USB and audio ports on the motherboard. Drop down to where the video card ports are. They might have plastic caps over them that can be removed.

I plugged the adapter in the area that was circled yellow and it's still not a perfect fit.
It's a dvi to vga adapter. Does this mean I should get a vga to HDMI adapter? Edited by silverfire - 18 Aug 2017 at 5:36pm |

if i could interject here?
if you're trying to connect over VGA (the blue cable connector) that is an analog only signal. you monitor specs indicate VGA (also known as D-sub), DVI-D (digital only) and HDMI (digital only) capabilities. if your monitor (check selector button ) is set to receive a digital signal (via HDMI or DVI) then you will not receive a picture while using the blue VGA cable connections. and just my opinion, there is no reason to favor using VGA over HDMI or DVI. |

also, the GTX Pascal cards don't even have a D-sub port. it supports only Dual Link DVI, Display Port, and HDMI connections. you must be trying to connect the blue VGA/D-sub cable into the mobo I/O on the rear panel. connect directly to the graphics card with either an HDMI, DP, or DVI (white) connection and then check you monitor selector buttons to navigate to the input selection and select the matching mode.

did you get any cables with your DS system? what kinds of cables came with your monitor? and do you still have them?
my advice is to go down to a Radio Shack or whatever you got near you and buy yourself an HDMI male to male cable and switch your monitor input to HDMI mode. you'll be infinitely happier. the newer HDMI standard is backwards compatible. Edited by db188 - 18 Aug 2017 at 5:45pm |

I did have another HDMI cable (thanks Wii u). I only got cables for plugging in the PC and setting up a wireless connection with the system.
I'm going to check if I have any other cables that came with the monitor. |

if anything came with the monitor it's probably just a DVI and VGA cable. i don't know any vendor that provides HDMI cables with their monitors.
okay, great, try using the HDMI cable and make sure it's connected to the graphics card. then switch your monitor over to HDMI mode as its input. let's see if you get it working. |
