Budget:
$1900-2500

Looking for something that'll last me. Bought a Vanquish last time, lasted me quite a bit but my motherboard's kicking the bucket. Not really interested in getting a new Vanquish or anything, just interested in getting a whole new one. Not really interested in water cooling either. Wasn't a fan of the corsair water cooling I got with my Vanquish.

To put it bluntly: I want to play Fallout 4 at the highest settings (since it's Bethesda lol) and other games for a good 3-4 years. I'd also like it to run a few graphic mods when they come out. For now, I've got a 970 and my old PC working fine.

I have a config in mind. I would like to know if the cooling will suffice with an OC, since as I said, I'm not really interested in watercooling:

Upgrade the power supply to the other SuperNova 750W unit and lower the GPU down to the 970. Take your 970 you already have and put it in this system when it comes and you'll have a very capable system. I don't know what sort of storage you have on your other computer, but you could possibly remove some from this one to save a little. Same thing with the optical drive.

The cooling should work just fine, no issues there.

BTW, your Vanquish is not that old...the motherboard is most likely still under warranty. DS can help you out getting any warranty replacement of it.

Main issue is I have to replace a few things in the other PC we have.

Specifically, the CPU is drastically out of date and the GPU isn't all that good. Disc drive sounded like it was having some issues when I was downloading FNV into it, and I'll be putting the HDD from the Vanquish in there since that HDD is also pretty old by now. So, spending cash on a new PC is going to happen regardless of what I do. May as well have my main computer upgraded and well done at that haha.

All I needed to know was the cooling would work with the overclock and a 980. Thanks!

Edit: Oh, and I think my Vanquish is from early 2013. Replaced the... 760, I believe it came with, with a 970 I got on sale. Fairly certain the warranty is, in fact, out.

Hi Dochbeet,

Good point about the 750W Power Supply. The B1/B2 series has a five year warranty. The G1/G2 has a ten year warranty for only $42 more. The 750w Super Nova G1/G2 is well worth the additional cash. Now if you don't expect to be using your computer for more than five years then the B1 will save you a few bucks. There is a possibility that a power supply with a ten year warranty may be more reliable.

If it was my machine I would go with the Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler for $20 more. Just make sure it will fit in the Coridium case when you place your order. The D15 will give you better performance. It all depends on your budget.

I like your build with the 980. The Coridium is my favorite mid-size case.

If the Noctua doesn't fit, what would the best water cooling solution be? The main reason I dislike it is the fact it gets really dirty, really fast, faster than any other cooler I've seen.

I have a sixteen year old cat who is losing his hair badly, and even when I clean the cooler often, it just gets dusty and hairy. Is there any specific corsair cooler that can avoid this?

whether you go with air or water cooling you're still going to collect dust, animal hair, what have you.  there are things that can mitigate some of that, but everyone has to clean out their rigs from time to time.  you can get a "closed" case like the Slade.  you can get a case with dust filters.  as for the coolers, "water coolers" dissipate heat via radiators.  radiators have some passive cooling to them, but they also have fans on them to remove the heat from them and blow it out of the case.  "air coolers" are just big, aluminum blocks of metal with fans mounted on them.  they take the heat from your cpu, via the aluminum block/heat pipes and the fans blow that heat into the case, which then hopefully your case fan config efficiently blows it out of the case.

i've got a Noctua D14 air cooler and i've never seen it get any more "dirty" than any other air cooler that i've used.  my temps under load are in the low 60's.  in fact, it is the best air cooler that i've ever used.  i've read about its replacement (D15) being an even better performer.  it just comes down to whether or not it fits.  if DS offers it in their configurator with the case you select, there's a good chance that it will fit.

If you purchased your Vanquish in 2013, I believe it's still under warranty.

As I said, I need to upgrade another computer so warranty isn't an option.

Plus, I want to go all out on mine: So I decided to upgrade the GPU to a 980 TI, get the better PSU, The Noctua, an Asus motherboard and a different HDD. Can't wait to finally try a 980ti myself!
