Hi fellas,

I purchased my computer from Digital Storm close to a couple years ago and it has been by far the best, most dependable rig I have ever had.  With it getting up in age I was thinking about upgrading it.  Looking at the build sheet are there any components that should be upgraded to bring it inline with the current 4K machines?  Thank you for your help!

You could put two 980 Ti GPU's in SLI on it, but if you don't have a 4K monitor now, I'd recommend holding off until later this year when a single next generation (Nvidia Pascal and AMD Arctic Islands) GPU may suffice. Your GPU should be able to handle SLI, no problem. I would recommend looking into getting GPU's with All-in-One coolers on them, similar to your CPU. You can mount the radiators to the front of the case.

Sorry to burst that bubble but it's been confirmed they will not play 4k games at higher than medium on a single csrd. It's impossible due to pcie limitatuons. Pcie 4 may fix it in 2017-2018

I'd like to see a source for that as a couple things make that seem bogus. One of the major improvements with DirectX 12 and Vulkan is the vastly improve draw call rate. This makes it so the interface is much more efficient and has reduced latency to relay communications across the PCI-e interface. The other thing is that it is well known and well documented that the PCI-e 3.0 is not saturated at all, currently, and running it down at x8 lanes only sacrifices 1-2% total performance when measuring the frame rate output. Even if the GPU performance were to double (I'm expecting no more than about a 50% improvement with the next gen cards), I don't know if the interface would be completely saturated.

Thank you for your response.  So do you feel my MB and CPU will be sufficient for this upgrade and that dual 980 TIs will put me where I want to be?

Thanks again for your time.

Your CPU, Gryphon z87 and 1050watt psu can definitely handle an sli, 980 ti upgrade. The sli 980ti is very good for 4K gaming.
