Budget $10,000 or so (not including monitors, or keyboard and mouse)
Expectations I would like to have at least a dual monitor set-up. I have used someone's computer with dual monitors and like what I saw. Usage I have several games now and some are more than taxing my old system. I have seen several new games that I want but don't have a system that can play them. I do a little photo editing, but not much. I also do some photo dvds and some slideshows as well. Special needs I keep a lot of photos on my hard drives as well as a lot of documents. This is part of the reason for the hard drive configuration I used. I would prefer a quieter system but that is not the most important thing. I do not like liquid cooled systems, therefore the reason for air cooling and the fan upgrades. The reason for the hot swap bays is to keep another copy of my photo and documents. Well, with a budget of 10000 you could get a little more. For starters, I would get 2 blu ray opticals. The GTX 690s cannot be SLI'd so I would go with the GTX 680s 4gb. And you don't need 64 gb of memory, 32 gb is fine (and even thats overkill). Other than that, get another case. The Hailstorm wasn't built for air cooling, even though you can put it in and it doesn't have any usb 3 ports in the front. I would recommend the cosmos 2 or the haf x. I'm getting the cosmos 2 because you can put 3 120mm fans at the top, 4 120mm fans on the side, 1 200 mm fan in the front, 1 140mm fan at the back, and 1 fan in the inside (not sure what mm). Some of those fans are optional. And the cosmos 2 has a built in filter system. And it looks really cool. Also, get different fans, I recommend the following nzxt fans: 3 FZ-120mm LED at the top four FZ-120mm LED on the side one FZ-140mm LED in the back and one FS 200LED in the front If you're looking for monitors I would check out the Asus VE248Q 24-Inch -walden_emrys Edited by walden_emrys - 30 Aug 2012 at 11:58am |

Get at LEAST 4GB 680's in SLI if your budget is that high. No regrets, I promise ;)

Are you dead set on spending 10,000$, or is that just the upper limit? I ask because 10,000$ is far, far from necessary in getting you a ridiculously awesome machine.

Hi Braindead. Along the lines of what Tidgxor suggested, here is a config for about half the money and probably all you need. I can't cut/paste right now so look at Config#723870 Cost $ 4691. I didn't put in all the drives so just change to what you need. Also, to keep the D14 cooler I dropped cpu to 3820. The 3930k would need the Vortex 240 mm rad according to DS. The 3820 is all you need for gaming and light photo work. Tri-sli gtx680 might even be overkill depending on your monitor sizes. See what you think and good luck.

Hi Braindead,
You have a high budget but that doesn't mean you need to spend that much. I know you want a killer machine but based on your use you are way overbuilding. When you say you don't want LC cooling then that loses a lot of the cool effect. Does that mean you won't consider something like the Vortex 240? It uses liquid to cool but it is a closed loop and there is no maintenance. The Hailstorm case has 4 hot swap bays so do you really need the additional bays? If you want air the very best case is the HAF-X. It has better airflow, quiet fans and a much better case for air. You don't want the Zalman fans. They are noisy. You state you want double monitors. What size of monitors are you considering? They have a big impact on your GPU requirements. Frank Edited by FrankW - 30 Aug 2012 at 2:48pm |

If you really want 4 way SLI and the sound card you can SLI 2 GTX 690s. Here is a review to look at. They don't scale very well though. Edited by Asangard - 30 Aug 2012 at 2:46pm |
