Topic: New Gaming Laptop (help wanted) Posted: 12 Jun 2010 at 2:51pm |
Hey every1 this is my first post/topic, i have been interested in getting a new computer for a while. My main uses for this computer are:
1st Gaming 2nd Web Browsing 3rd Homework I decided to go with a laptop rather than desktop because of college, as i will need to use it in class for notes and homework. But I am getting a new computer because of gaming and that is my primary concern. My budget is $2500usd Tops. Here is what i have come up with and i was looking for some guidance. The ticket Number is 414099 I also had one question that someone might be able to help me with. I was curious if it was possible to put the WD VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600gb HDD in instead of the two WD 320Gb 7200rpm with a Raid 0 Config. My question is if its cost effective and performance effective Big Thanks in advance! (i'm just became interested in computers a few months ago so i'm any help is much appreciated!!) =D |

ehh.....one laptop to consider...
http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gamers-G73JH-A2-17-Inch-Gaming/dp/B0036ZE6SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1276375266&sr=8-1 Asus G73JH. Best bang for the buck hands down. Not customizable, well it is on xoticpc.com, not to promote them (DS's warranty is a LOT more extendable over asus's and xotic's), but it's another option |

Hiss! Hiss! Stay far away. Never never never bother with VelociRaptor HDDs. A 1TB 7200RPM 32MB drive has quite literately 90% of the speed of the fastest VelociRaptors, while also having way more space and being way less expensive. You'll never notice the difference between the two and they both pale so much compared to SSDs it is silly. For the price of a 600GB Velociraptor you can get an 80GB Intel SSD for OS/apps/games and a 1TB 32MB HDD for everything else, which is a much faster setup and almost twice the storage space. |

Velociraptors, the 1TB 2.5" HDD made by WD, and most high RPM 2.5" HDDs will not fit into a laptop. Laptops use drives with a 9.5 height specification, those high-perf drives are usually 12 or so to accommodate that kind of beef.
Best bet? Wait till the Seagate Momentus XT's hit. And yeah, velociraptor's aren't really worth it, I pretty much ordered the worst combo'd computer out there, so I know What? I was 13 at that time with no computer knowledge. Hell, I didn't even know there was a DS forum Edited by ablahblah - 12 Jun 2010 at 5:37pm |

Is it worth putting in two 320gb HDD's? would i notice a difference if i just put in 1 500gb 7200 HDD? Also does DS overclock laptop CPU's?
