What does OnLive mean for gaming PC owners? Will gaming PCs become obsolete? What's your take on this?

noting, if you want to pay monthly fees that will ultimately total more then your owing your own PC, have no control over the performance and parts of the server that you will be gaming at, then go ahead, but its much cheaper to own your own PC so that you can manipulate the performance.
HDTV resolution (720p60), OnLive needs 5 Mbps line, so if you don't have a 5mbps internet connection forget good resolution. thats just me tho. Edited by DST4ME - 25 May 2009 at 5:37pm |

I'm sure the game publishers love this model, however.... |

I think its got potential. But im not so sure it will catch on.
Keep in mind its a monthly fee for an always up to date computer (according to them), and a lot of games, if not all of them if it catches on.

I certainly won't be getting it for years to come with this internet connection... It's fast, but not that fast.

And if you are running one of those 2500x1600 or an extreme 5000x1600 (dual monitors O_O), you probably will end up needing Gbps speeds....

I was just reading an article about this in PC Gamer when I was hit with the revelation for the perfect marketing target for this service.
Hotels!
You already have TV's with broadband connections, just add the OnLive MicroConsole and a gamepad. Some hotels already offer game consoles with their rentals anyway, this would just expand what could be played.
Personally, I doubt I will ever use this service, but I remember saying the same thing about Netflix. Now I can't imagine not using Netflix.
