So a few hours ago, I opted for the upgrade from 200mpbs on Spectrum to the 1 GB on Fios. Sounding at 940/880 mbps, it sounded amazing. But I'm looking through reviews on it from consumers and many are saying they're not getting the same speed. Now given, this will be running on my Xbox, PS4, Switch, and many other wireless devices so I'm not expecting anything crazy, but specifically with my Xbox and PS4 Pro, those two will be connected via ethernet to the modem. From others viewpoints at this time with the pro, how do your typical download speeds fair?UC Browser SHAREit   Appvn

I don't have Verizon FIOS, but I have AT&T 1 Gig fiber.
When people start benchmarking their internet speeds, they immediately blame their internet provider when the "speed test" is less than the one advertised.
In the old days we used to run speed test to see how fast our connections were, but now with so many people getting 1 gig fiber connections,we are really running tests to see if the server can keep up with our speed.
Many of the default servers can't handle that many gig tests at once, they just don't have the bandwidth. The first thing that people should do is to test the speed between their gateway/router and their provider. Using the built in speedtest in my gateway, mine is always 940-920 approximately.
Then I use the Speedtest App by Oookla and try different servers.
If just one server gives me a gig result, that proves that my provider is giving me the speed I pay for.

FWIW and IMHO....

I have stopped using Ookla when I found that they get money from the service providers and there is a possibility of shenanigans with their information. Some have claimed that Ookla isn't giving fair results and data toward the ISPs from which they receive a fair share of their income is skewed. (I am currently not in a place where I can look for this information as source.)

Either way, for speed tests, I always use fast.com. This is Netflix's answer to keep the ISPs honest on their speeds. No ads, no muss, no fuss.

Again, IMHO, the better choice for speed testing.

Netflix (fast.com) just gave me a speed result of 325
These are my results from my gateway to the AT&T server:

Speed Test Results
Time     Direction     Throughput (Mbps)     Overhead (bytes)     Average Latency (ms)
05/07/19 05:14:08 PM     upstream     878.418     70     9.520
05/07/19 05:13:55 PM     downstream     992.443     70     9.513
05/02/19 05:25:37 PM     upstream     866.877     70     9.633
05/02/19 05:25:25 PM     downstream     988.754     70     9.999
03/08/19 04:58:57 PM     upstream     871.508     70     10.193
03/08/19 04:58:44 PM     downstream     983.882     70     10.498
01/08/19 08:00:06 AM     upstream     869.074     70     10.656

Obviously my location is not the best to test fast.com. My transmittion is not taking the best path, who knows, maybe one of the backbone switches is down (timeout?) forcing the TX to take a longer path...

Huh, this thread got me to thinking that I hadn't ran a speed test in over half a year or more. So I went and ran a few (fast.com was new to me, thanks Snaike) and I'm getting roughly 60% more speed than I am paying for (at least right now). Not gonna complain about that.

Insofar as Verizon FIOS goes, I've never had it but I have a good friend who was an early adopter. I asked him and he said he's always within +/- 10-15% of the speed he is paying for.

If it makes folks feel better about the tests results, get a bandwidth monitor program installed or, use your task manager and view your ethernet speed. It should match the speed shown on the online test (OOkla or whatever) so you know is not been rigged. Just make sure you don't have anything running in the background using your bandwidth.

That is what people forget as they fill their homes with wired and WiFi devices....all using that same bandwidth and watering down the capacity available at each device.

I am paying ATT for the privilege of getting 12Mbs down and 4 up... I fully understand that during the day, when I have 5 cell phones, 2 laptops, 2 smart TVs, a XBOne and my computer running that I should get a seriously "watered down" version so I don't really complain that much when I see (via Fast.com) speeds of 6-10Mbs...

But I work nights and on my days off, when there is nary a soul awake other than the me and the cats, and I run Fast.com to see that I getting anywhere from 2-4MBs I'm going to get angry. This is why I found Fast.com because Ookla was telling me that ATT was still giving me 10-12MBS in the middle of the night and therefore it must be my machine that was bottlenecking me...
