Hi yodachoda,
You have made some good picks. 1. I would select the 256 850 Pro over the Evo for $48. 2. The 970 GPU will play most games with good FPS at 1920 x 1080 resolution. But the ratings are averages and you might fall back a bit with some scenes. Probably not enough to worry about. The 980 will give you about a 15% boost over the 970 but at a cost penalty. I suggest you go to AnandTech and check out their Bench test for GPUs. That will give you a good idea of what to expect from your 970. Noname makes a good point. If you go with the 970 GPU you might save some money going with the Vanquish level 4.

Extra PSU is not necessary for a system like this unless he'll be putting a second GPU as well as a TV tuner card or other peripherals that draw a lot of power. This should be good enough for a system with SLI GTX 970's.
