Hello all, and thank you for looking! I started PC gaming around 2002, but have never had my own brand new PC. Friends have built new, and I bought theirs. Worked well so far, but when they are enjoying the newest games with settings maxed, I hobble through it, settings on low or sometimes I don't even play at all. So, my question is this... I play most Blizzard games, with the exception of Overwatch. Guild Wars 2, most Total War games. I don't care for 4k, 1440 is an option, and already have a nice 1080p monitor with 144 refresh (friend upgraded to 4k, thanks for the good deal on the monitor bro!) I have strayed from new games, only because I can't run them, but would definitely look into them with the arrival of a powerful new gaming PC! Other than gaming, a little bit of web browsing would be the only thing I'd do. I love the look of the Apollo, and the white for sure looks clean. I'd like to keep that look, but not sure on if the chassis fans would add or be too much for the build. Where would they be placed in the system? I was planning on waiting for a 1070 card, more likely non founders, but the build currently has a 1080 in it. I have no idea on what to expect for cooling, but I like the look of the Air Stage 1 cooler compared to the Air Stage 2. I would consider an OC, but would like to see how it runs standard first. Any thoughts or ideas you could help me consider? Thank you very much!!!

Welcome to the forums, rchip! The smart configuration folks will be along shortly to help out with most of your questions.
The one thing I can add is that the Apollo, and all DS machines at this point, do not list the GTX1070 yet because they haven't been released. So, that shouldn't be a worry. Again, welcome to DS! It's gonna be great. |

If you want to allow for expansion of a second graphics card later on (if you want to do something like 1440 at 144Hz), you may want to consider bumping the PSU up to 850W. Otherwise, switch it up to the other 750W unit for better efficiency and a much longer warranty (shared with the 850W unit).
The fans won't give you too much benefit beyond the looks. They'll be located on the front, top (if needed), and one on the back. The CPU cooler would give you better performance going to the Stage 2, but if you aren't pushing the processor beyond stock speeds (keep in mind that the motherboard multi-core enhancement will actually allow the processor to run the turbo speeds of 4.4GHz on all 4 core) then it won't be a significant difference, processor speed wise. |

If you dont care for 4K you don't really need the 1080 card. I would suggest a 980 ti and wait for the 1080 ti to be released later if you want 4K by then. It'll save you almost 200 bucks.
Alls do you ever plan to overclock the cpu? If not the non k version will save you some more bucks Edited by Marvc13 - 09 Jun 2016 at 8:03am |

Ah I never did consider SLI, guess it wouldn't hurt to get the 850W to be on the safe side. I really wish the stage 2 air option were.. "prettier". The fan color is the only thing I don't really care for, otherwise I'd go stage 2 in a heartbeat just to be safe. |

Overclock is currently a maybe, I figured I'd shoot for higher end parts now in hopes they last a few years, and if upgrading certain parts isn't a great option, then I'd just do a complete new build again. |

Hi rchip,
If you want to go air the Noctua NH-D15 is an outstanding performer. Not to pick it because you don't like the fan color might be a mistake. Performance is always more important than looks. People who have experience with coolers can spot the D-15 right off due to those strange color fans that work very well. Frank |

Yeah I originally wanted the liquid cooling but heard so many good things about the noctua 15 plus with the velox case having so much air flow figured I'd be good with them no problems.

Very true, I really shouldn't disregard an item based on looks if it will better my system as a whole. I really appreciate the insight everyone, and I think I'm ready to make my purchase. Being impatient, and the fact I totally envy the I boxing videos on YouTube, I think I may just say forget waiting on the 1070 and just get the 1080 because it's here and waiting on me to pick it

You list the system memory as the Corsair Dominator Platinum. I have read somewhere else that those will not fit under the Noctua and if you chose it with that memory kit, the Configurator will pop up the incompatibility. You might want to check with DS. Good luck with your build.

Thank you for the heads up, I will set up the build and try to contact them about it. I don't believe anything popped up but worth looking further in to. |

Noctua us a great cooler, I would change my Ram before I change my cooler.
You can always change the fans to led or other colors, but noctua fans are one of the best and quietest for that size and speed. Personally I would ask DS to add the third fan to noctua for best cooling, but that's just me. For storage I would request 1tb WD Black edition or just get that drive myself by pop it in, we can show you how to do it, just so you know, we can show a 12 yearold how to do it in literally 2 minutes. |
