I believe I've come up with a good config but I'm always open to idea's and any help is greatly appreciated.

My budget is flexible to about $100 around $2700 and i have currently made my own setup but if someone could review it for me that would be great. Just to make sure I'm not doing something unnecessary.

Ticket: 416287

I'm in school for computer animation, so i would need to run some memory intensive and graphically intensive programs. I would be a modeler if anyone knows anything bout the field. (If you don’t and want an idea, youtube '3D Modeling Demo Reel') I'm also an avid gamer so lots of video games will be played.

Hmm, so first, what would be your priority? Gaming, or graphics modeling?

Gaming and Graphics Design work better with different graphics cards.

Swap the case for a 922, the Maelstrom's airflow I really dunno whether it's good or not, not enough reviews to justify.

The ATI 5970, i dunno, justin's the man for graphics selection, heh.

Changes:
Swapped case for HAF 922, better airflow for buck
Swapped motherboard for EVGA X58 FTW3, still keeps USB 3.0 and SATA III, EVGA has a better rep
Swapped PSU for a 1000 Watt, probably need around that much for the hardware you're packing
Swapped hard drive for a 80GB Solid State Drive for boot, and a 1TB drive for storage
Swapped video cards for a 5870 with 2 gigs of RAM. A 5970 is essentially two 5870s, the one I picked out for you is pretty much equal to half a 5970.

Blah, if graphics modeling is main priority, then your going into the workstation department, hehe. lemme see what I can whip up there...

(Argh, it's way too expensive in that department..Out of curiosity, what computer are you using at the moment?)

i was looking at the HAF X. any news on whether that or the HAF 922 would be better airflow wise?

right now i have a dell inspiron E1505. it was ok for the beginner courses in computer animation but i graduate in a semester and with the work ive been doing ive had to rely on the school labs because my laptop cant handle the work load

does it make a difference if im not really going to use it for rendering. just for modeling really.

and i was playing with the workstations, if you can come up with a decent workstation thats as low as you think you can get it without sacrificing. mine as well post it, it wouldnt hurt to look at it.

ok, 416434, this is the build that was redone for me this afternoon, only thing i changed was i made it one harddrive not ssd. i can always upgrade to it later. and i was wondering if i should put the ati 5970 back in there because i would be using more than one monitor.

Sorry, I have to give my notes separate due to glitch.

This looks like a gaming rig because we had a professional cg modeler/designer give a lengthy post on how well he worked at home with a GTX 480.

The HAF case is new here. It looks great, but it has a number of optional fans, and I don't know what DS has as standard. I also don't know if you can get fans in green. You want that case, you're gonna have to talk to someone. They will be very helpful.

I DK why you picked that mobo, but the LE is probably the best basic pick here. If you want USB 3, get the add-in card IMO. SATA 6g/s isn't really available yet, these mobo's are sort of faking it. If you insist, tho the kid's right, I'd get the EVGA FTW.

Got your 12g of RAM, because you can use it for your work.
750W is all you need. Corsair highly recommended.
The SSD is in the budget, and with your usage, I think it will really come into play and be a great feature. Only for OS, main apps you use the most, maybe a few games you use the most.
1T HDD for all those big graphics files.
The GTX 480 because a pro in your line of work said so.
Noctua D-14 is top of the line. D-12 Dual is almost as good if you want.
Don't overclock or tweak anything but the processor.
Put in Win 7 Pro, because it has a free XP download you might need for an older program you become fond of that won't run on Win 7. If that won't happen, get 64 bit Home.
Free or not I recommend the 2/4 warranty for you, it's in the budget.
This machine will be extremely fast and powerful. The pro says the GTX480 does the job. This is all you'll need for a long time.
