Spammed Forums

Gentlemen (and Ladies),

I will attempt to keep General Discussion free of spam. But the rest of the forums I will leave to Digital Storm's discretion on whether to delete the spam or delete the entire section.

I have received all of the tools in DS' basket to remove these latest spam attacks and it is just not enough. I can not continue trying to erase these posts 1 at a time. Tonight, after deleting over 1000 messages (40 pages) just in General Discussion I counted over 2000 more in "Configuration Discussion" (27 pages), "Technical Assistance" (17 pages), "Performance/Overclocking" (13 pages) and "Hardware Discussion" (25 pages).

At 25 messages per page that is just over 2000 messages left to clutter these boards.

So, my apologies. I will do my very best to keep this section open (it's "the hill I've decided to die on") but the rest of the forums are going to be left to Digital Storm's "Batch Delete" should they desire.

I honestly don't get it.   What do they get out of attacking us?

Issue resolved.

Our development team got involved and purged the forums database with all of the SPAM. We've created a simple script that can wipe it all out quickly and easily (must be done manually by our team).

We've also added an IP range block for the suspected SPAM accounts to help crack down on this.

Things should be smooth sailing now.

Nice to hear!! I'm glad Snaike will finally be able to sleep soundly knowing the Spam Monster under his bed is being dealt with!!

Alex, many, many thanks to your attentiveness to our forums so we can express ourselves. I'm always pleased, but never overly surprised, to see you weigh in and be the voice of authority that backs us up in what we believe. If we were operating in a vacuum, the newcomers would eventually see us as just a pack of fanboys, and our legitimacy would be diminished.

Snaike, you DON'T have a thankless task. We've been cheering you on all the way, and we are grateful for your dedication to our platform! We are all once again awed by the responsiveness from our favorite computer maker that stepped up and heard your pleas. Thanks again for all your hard work.

Forums just got spammed again recently, over 1,000 posts.

The team quickly was able to purge all of the SPAM.

We've now added geographic blocking on suspicious traffic, this will further help crack down on these incidents.

When I got to the machine this morning (2300pdt) the posts in question were all blocked. Made me think that it was over, but apparently not. It's very nice to see the safeguards in action, though.

Go team go.

Maybe DS isn't fans of Kokopelli.

As moderator I can see the post, so it's a good thing I copied down those numbers. When I win that <$1B jackpot I think I'm gonna talk to Alex about becoming an investor.    Thanks for the numbers.
