I was just informed the my Vanquish was built without the Corsair Neutron GTX Series 120GB SATA 6Gbps due to out of stock. I talked with a tech and it sounded like they replaced it with a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB. I am scared that I am paying the same price for a down Grade. I want to know which is the Better SSD the Corsair Vs. the Samsung???

A lot of people on here have been recommending the Samsung SSD as the best but i think either of the two are good

Testing I've seen shows the Samsung EVO faster across the board in most but not all areas. But,like Arkansas said, they're all fast and for most, not noticeable. Dependability, time will tell.
DS substitutes the same as much as possible. |

EVO's have a known write issue on several of their SSD versions. I got luck with my two 1tb's to not have it. But hands down, the 840 PRO 256GB and higher are the best there are. It is what it is. Samsung 840 PRO is you want the absolute best.

As it happens, both products are featured on Anandtech's SSD bench. You can pull up a comparison of the two here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/703?vs=966 As you can see, they're fairly close on most tests, though the EVO blows the Neutron away on certain very specific tests. Like most Samsung SSDs, the EVO has a pretty good reputation for reliability. The EVO and Neutron are also targeted at a very similar price point, though Samsung have been doing some aggressive discounting in the past few months. Overall, I wouldn't be concerned. These two are very close equivalents for almost all intents and purposes. I'd be very surprised if the substitution had any negative effect on your system. |

We would never change a configuration to a different component unless it was just as good or better.

Don't buy the 120GB. Regardless of synthetic benchmarks or proposed speeds, you get a better read/write on the 250gb+ sizes. Same for the pro's. The 256gb and up are twice as fast as the 128gb.

Meller, gifty101 has purchased the Vanquish II (as did I). There is no choice in type or size of components due to the 'pre-configured' state of this line of computers. Offering advice that can't be taken is of little use. Now, on the other hand, should he wish to upgrade in the future there is plenty of room to move into the higher Gb SSDs. But if DS says that it's the same or better, I would not be concerned in the least. **Edit... Misspelled gifty101 Edited by Snaike - 08 Apr 2014 at 2:23am |

BTW, Welcome to the family gifty101! Hope you enjoy your Vanquish. Great little budget beating beasts that they are.

Congrats on your new rig and welcome to DS!!
As already repeated several times, you'll be more than happy with the EVO drive installed and Samsung has a great track record with their SSDs. |

I realize that. I already provided him with opinions on brands. From this point on, I'm merely pointing out specs. Everything is always of use. Thanks for your concern though, I appreciate your input *cough* Have a nice day. Edited by Meller - 07 Apr 2014 at 3:20pm |
