Greetings everyone! I just started to do some research lately and I would love to get myself a new rig on here. I was hoping to throw some ideas to see what the public thinks. RIght now my budget is $2,000-$2,500 MAX (just for the tower and the pretty insides.) I want to get something that is pretty buff but not over the top. One of the biggest toss ups I have is in regards to the processor. I'm very torn between the i7 950 3.06ghz and the i7 extreme 965 3.2ghz. I'm not sure if the 1.4ghz is worth the $200 price jump. Also, I am split between overclocking as well only because as much as the water cooler is nice, I may be overstepping my price range with it. I do however want a system that remains cool and quiet. Again, overclocking is purly optional as i can go either way.
I will be getting myself a new LCD shortly that is about 22" 1680x1480 or something of that nature. However, I will also be connecting this to my big boy 46" samsung 650 model on occasion (when the wife isnt watching it hehe) So I was thinking the geforce 295 would be ideal for me. However going the duel route maybe overkill? Not sure. Again 80% of my gaming will be on the smaller LCD anyways.
The ram i will get is 6gigz so thats a no brainer right there.
The HDD i would love to get is the newer SSD 120g. But i may hold off on that till it comes down in price.
Fans vs Water? I would love to do water cool but again, may be out of my price range.
I just started to think about getting a new rig recently so I'm still looking around to see what would be best for me. (BTW I play FPS, RTSRPGz)
I appreciate any input at any level. Thanks in advance!

The difference between the 950 and 9650 is only 0.14 GHz, not 1.4GHz. You can overclock on air as well, the results just won't as good.
Television sets only have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or lower. So having two GTX 295 isn't necessary. The GTX 295 card in itself is SLI so a single one should be able to handle 1920 x 1080. |

instead of 295, 2 x 275 gives better performance and cost less.
if you want to game on the 46" on high settings you will need 2 x 275, if you want to game at 1600 x 1200, you will need 1 x 275. now if I config a system for you with 2 x 275 and 128GB SSD you will be around $2600. prices of SSDs are high right now, I suggest going with a 500GB then upgrading to a SSD end of this year or early next year. Wow thanks a lot!! I can't believe how much of an overclock that 920 can go! That is sensational and the price is right on. Thanks so much! I will have to make sure i can break the bank right now with this exact set up. :)
One question.. This really isn't important but that new network card, the killer xeno pro that is supoose to rduce latency. Does that really work? Say if i connect to a server and my average ping is around 60. How much will that help reduce? Again, just to ask to ask.!

Short answer is that its a waste of your money, you connection and server speed are more of a factor then the xeno.

if youve got a horrible connection it might help a tiny bit
for the most part you could use a regular network card and get similar results |

Honestly they took the coolest feature of the Killer M1 out of the Xeno Pro: The hardware firewall.
It's a cute toy and sorta interesting for a heavy downloader, someone superparanoid or those that REALLY like voice chat not interfering in their benchmark scores. Normal people, not that useful.
