Topic: Suggestions on new build Posted: 15 Nov 2016 at 1:55pm |
Hello, I had spec'd out a new system and decided to ask for suggestions it chat help. The customer service rep recommended a different system and I'd appreciate comments on which would be preferable. My system was and Apollo i5 6600 / GTX1070 system. He recommended a Vanquish5 i7 6700/ GTX1080 system. As I see it its trading superior processor/video card for lesser quality motherboard/power supply etc. Comments appreciated.

Tough to compare the two. The Vanquish has the i7 CPU and the gtx 1080. Your build has the better psu, CPU cooler and EVGA gtx 1070 and i5 overclocked chip.
If you game on a 1080 p monitor and mainly game, your Apollo build with its better components would be my pick, money aside. If you game on higher resolution monitor, then the gtx 1080 would be nice to have. The i7 processor is preferred, but just gaming, the overclocked i5 is my choice between the 2 builds. Basically, for 1080 p, get the Apollo. Nothing wrong with the Vanquish DS branded cooler, unknown mobo, etc. They do work for most. I personally, if budget allows, like to know my mobo, a better psu and a Corsair h115 cooler with its longer warrant. DS brand might just have their system warranty. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, I meant to add that I decided to splurge and am getting an
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27" 2560x1440 144Hz 1ms G-SYNC Eye Care Gaming Monitor so I guess the 1080 would be nice to have. |

Yep, I'd go gtx 1080. If in the budget, add the gtx 1080 to your Apollo build. Otherwise, I'm not sure. The 1070 will play most games on a 1440p pretty decently, but the 1080 does give you 10-20 % better frames. Tough call.

You are looking at wrong.
you get a 6700k for $2200, then get $50 of that price because of the sale and you are at $2150, add 2 year free part warranty and now you got a 6700k with 2 year warranty for $2150. Ticket Number: 1523210 I also upgraded your cooler for less headache. upgraded fans were pointless there is no where to add more fans. removed the hdd you can always add that later easily for less when needed. You dont' need to oc the gpu but if want to oc it we can help you do so its very easy on the gpu. 1070 will do good at 1440p but if you want higher minimum fps then you can go 1080gtx otherwise based on the benches you should get 60fps average on most games at 1440p Edited by DST4ME - 15 Nov 2016 at 5:12pm |
