Topic: Vanquish 3 or Lynx 3? Posted: 10 Jun 2019 at 3:35am |
Good morning!
I am trying to make my first ever gaming rig and need some advice. My budget is around $1500 and I was looking at either the Vanquish level 3 or Lynx level 3. I haven’t owned a PC in a long time but my roommate recommended me to this website. The rig is mainly gonna be for gaming and multitasking. Main game I Would be playing is Destiny 2 and I want to be able to run that game Atleast 1080p at 60fps at high settings. I also want a PC that is semi further proof with upgrading. I know both vanquish and lynx level 3 are good for upgrading down the line. Just want to know which of these two would give me the best bang for the money I want to spend. Thanks!! |

No question you want the Lynx. 16GB Ram vs 8. RTX 2060 vs GTX 1060. RGB fans. The CPU is a mere 5% less than the i7 8700. You will never notice. The video difference is huge. Same price, same DS quality build.
Plays Destiny 2 at ~140fps at 1080p. |

Just ordered! Thanks again!
Had extra spending room so I went for the Lynx level 4 instead I didn’t ask for the GPU to be overclocked though, should I have ? Edited by Kunal008 - 11 Jun 2019 at 11:44pm |

Congratulations and welcome. That is a very nice system. You will love it. No good reason to oc gpus. Only creates more heat. Enjoy and keep us posted. BTW, we like images of systems when they get to their homes.

Congrats!! and welcome to the DS Family...
No, the GPU does not need an OC. As hoserator says it just adds heat and we don't want heat. Btw, should you wish to have the "Verified Customer" tag you need to make certain that your ordering email and your forums email match eXAcT1y. Again, welcome and happy gaming. |

Thanks everyone for answering my questions so fast!
Will definitely post pics when I get the rig! I also did use the same email as the one on forum. I am assuming I get the tag once I get the system? I already have a ASUS 24" LED FHD FreeSync Monitor Ready to go but haven’t bought a gaming mouse and keyboard yet? Any recommendations? Looking for something not too expensive but good. |

Nope. It's automatic. The email addresses have to match exactly. In my own case, my order email had a capital letter that my forums email had as lower case. While the email servers don't care about that, this Verified Customer tag does. So, take a quick look and see if they match exactly. Good luck!! |

How good is Digital Storm about changing the order up? Ordered the Lynx 4 last week but I had to urge to make it a little better and wouldn’t mind paying extra for upgrades. Would this build be a lot better then the Lynx 4?

And a better ssd and a stronger psu. Is the extra $ worth it on this build over the Lynx 4 or should I just keep the Lynx 4 how it is? Edited by Kunal008 - 16 Jun 2019 at 9:43am |

Lynx 4 is a great value choice, but of course it’s components can be beat with a custom build. Yup those are better component choices. 16 go RAM is all you will need for gaming.
Do take advantage of the free DS Stage 1 Overclock on the CPU! Move up to the Corsair H100i 240 mm cooler if you can for it’s longer warranty. Suggest you upgrade mobo to Asus Strix or MSI Carbon...There is no good reason to use a Micro ATX board in a full sized ATX case if you don’t have to. |

Ok thanks for suggestions ! Would it be better to just call them and talk to someone on phone and make changes or email? I just ordered last Tuesday so my order is still in stage 1.

Probably call DS, then ask for the new config via email and check to make sure you have all your changes noted.

If I configured it correctly like your new build, it seems you're paying an extra $377 for a Micro ATX mobo (?) named RAM you will never notice, and a power supply you don't NEED to upgrade. The only thing in your new build that actually does anything you will appreciate, is the NVMe 970 EVO. Pricing one of those on Amazon, you could have it waiting at home for $117 for the really easy install when you get your Lynx 4.
I don't argue the upgrades are not marginally better, just that, the NVMe aside, they don't improve the build anywhere near the money invested. Just sayin'. |

Thanks for advice! So should I just stay with the Lynx 4? I know it’s a good deal for how much I am paying. Would the upgrade on the Mobo and cooling system be worth it to upgrade to a Lumos build since they’re offering $200 off for a $2000 build and free ground shipping. Just trying to see my best option since the Lynx 4 is still in stage 1.
I didn’t know how good the default Mobo was and just figured maybe upgrading to the Pro Carbon Mobo would be worth it. I assume replacing a mother board is the hardest part about upgrading if I had to do it on my own. I do appreciate all the knowledge and advice though! First time ordering so just wanted to get the best possible machine that would last me especially with these new gaming consoles coming out next year. Edited by Kunal008 - 17 Jun 2019 at 9:30am |

Ahh, didn't know about the discount. I can see more logic to your thoughts.
Digital Storm Desktop - Config ID 2428882 That build is the best of both worlds coming in discounted at $2210 with the better mobo, better cooler, and the NVMe. Add in free shipping, (maybe as much as $70 where you live) and that package is probably only about $140 or so more than the Lynx 4! No objection to the RAM upgrade for just $17 if you want. You could shave another $100 off that if you got the 250GB Samsung 970 just for OS and important maintenance and productivity apps. Then you could get yourself a 1 TB Samsung 960 SATA SSD for your games library when you're ready. Currently on Amazon for $137, but more expensive here. Installing a hard drive is very simple. I apologize for not knowing about the discounts. Definitely changes my thinking. Note I included the stage 1 OC. Also key is getting the Lynx case, saving $131. I think it's a great case. Hope it helps! |

Thanks Cretae! I think the discount for free shipping and the $200 discount is only allowed on the Lumos cases and up and it voids on the lynx and vanquish cases.
But I still think your config with the Lumos case looks like it would be awesome. Edited by Kunal008 - 17 Jun 2019 at 11:03am |

Nope, you're not locked into the Lumos case when you go custom build. The Lynx case is offered right there in the configurator, and the $200 was taken off at the end. shipping was also free. Up to you.
