Topic: Vanquish 5: Can't customize RAM? Posted: 05 Jun 2016 at 3:00pm |
Hey all! I'm looking at the Vanquish 5 line of desktops. Below is a brief description of my budget/wants.
I'm struggling to choose between the Vanquish 5 "Better" and "Best" models. In the long-run, would I be better off shelling out the extra ~$300 for the "Better" i7 model? Or, just upgrading my "Best" i5 model? I called and asked if I could upgrade the "Better" model with 16GB RAM instead of 8GB RAM, but they said no. The "Better" model has 2x 4GB RAM, and the "Best" has 2x 8GB RAM. Is it that difficult to just swap and give me the 16GB? :( Budget: Around $1100 (not firm) Expectations: - Primarily for gaming - Want great performance at highest in-game graphics settings - 1080p, 144Hz Monitor(s) - Eventually two displays; game on one, casual tasks on another - No video editing/rendering - Don't want to have to buy upgrades over the next year or two - Maintenance free/good heat & sound management Usage: Daily Thanks a lot! The Vanquish until recently were pre built with no option to customize at all. Recent update to the config now allows some changes but not as in the other fully customized builds. That's why not all parts are swappable in config. They do it to keep costs down and pass it along.
If you need 16gb, and gaming doesn't, either swap the ram in level 2 after you get it with 2x 8gb or get the level 3 Best and change CPU to the i5-6500 to save some money. The other added cost in level 3 over level 2 is the upgraded motherboard, power supply, etc. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the advice man! I didn't realize I could downgrade the CPU. I've heard mixed reviews but pretty much all point to only needing an i5 for gaming - the question is, which one? Should I downgrade to an i5 6500 3.2GHz and save $135 or just stick with the i7? Edit: Screw it, i7 it is! The better motherboard, more ram, more power supply, and i7 for only ~$280 will be worth it in the long run. Cheers! Edited by lucKykev - 05 Jun 2016 at 3:55pm |
