Hello everyone!
Well, I am currently over in Iraq and all I have right now is a laptop, but when I get home I would really like to invest my hard earned money into a nice quality machine. I want it to look stunning, but I also want it to have the shelf life of a couple years with only little to no upgrading. I do want liquid cooling and would like it to be as silent as possible. I want the machine to be black with a red glow and make some red and black paint. Anyways, I want something with the biggest bang for its buck. My price range is between 5-7k. . Thank you everyone. Have a good one! Edited by TONYY - 23 Aug 2009 at 12:53am |

Here is the current build, but it is breaking the wallet right now over $9000.00 and I think it truly might be overkill. Any tips or suggestions?

This is much better and has a 5 year warranty and will handle whatever you throw at it with that 24" monitor at 1900 x 1200.

Thank you for all the help! So I guess I went a bit on a overkill with all of the fans? Can you explain why the hailstorm case is better?

Any particular reason for the 975 over the 920 DST? It would bring him back under 7k and it should be able to hit stage 2 OC as well.

The 975 doesn't heatu the NB as much thus it won't need the extra fans.
@tonyy, Did you look at the hailstorm? its got some extra features like hot swap bays and it has more room. |

@DST4ME: Never heard of that before, do you have any info/links regarding that?
From what I have noticed, at least on the Classified, 920 vs 950 vs 975 made little to no difference on the NB temp when overclocked. Though if you have something that is showing otherwise I'd like to see if I can replicate it. |

James and Alex had been saying it, when one person orders a 920 with stage 2 oc they tell them they need the fan upgrade due to NB getting too hot.

DST4ME why do you always flog the gtx 275 no matter weather it's for a 2000 dollar build or a +7k build.
If OP has a deep enough wallet to splurge for a 975 (which in my opinion is totally pointless) then OP should just go and dual/tri sli gtx 285s. Whatever DST4ME says the gtx 285 is an inherently more powerful card and if you run crysis at 1920 by 1080 then you WILL notice a diffrence between the 278 and 285. Tonny in my opinion you should go with a 920 oc'ed to 4.0, remove the exotic paint job (you pc is supposed to be a gaming workhorse not artwork) and spend the money you saved on some 285s I guarantee you it is a more worthwhile investment than a 975 and a different case color. Good luck your build. |

Ya in lala land what sirsiddius said is true, however in real world crysis at 1900 x 1200 has 3 fps difference between 275 and 285, making the 275 the best choice and the 285 not worth its price for 3 fps difference:
Crysis WARHEAD: Far Cry 2: in short the 285 cost more and is not worth it for 2 - 4 fps more. Therefore the 275 is the best choice, nobody will notice the 4 fps difference anyways and it certainly is not inherently more powerful at all. money spent on 285 is pure waste basically, and in sli the difference is even less. you will not notice the difference between a system that has 275 sli vs 285 sli, they will both give you above 60fps, at which point its difficult to tell the difference at all. |

Thank you for all the help and advice. I guess anything over 6gb of RAM is just overkill as well? I ended up taking off the paint job. And should order my system when I get back home from Iraq which is real soon. Any other advice? Btw thanks for your time!

The reason why the NB is heating up is due to lack of airflow in the case and no active cooling on the NB itself, which interestingly enough when it reached a certain temp it dropped the processor multiplier down to the lowest (12x if I remember right).
I'll keep researching this. |

So the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 896MB video cards is also a bad idea?

yes TONYY since the 2 x 275 will put perform the 295 in games that support sli and in games that don't. |

On that I actually agree with dst4me seeing as many games scale badly when more gpu's are added and 2x gtx295s are basically 4x gtx260s.
Assuming that you already have 3 gpu's working in sli adding one more will probably not make a diffrence at all in most games in the few games that do the diffrence will be something like less than 2fps. |

Is it wise to run 3x 275s? Also, What is the main difference by the 120 Solid Slate by Vertex and solid series. Besides the big price change.

For 1900 x 1200 its pointless to run Tri sli, you will not see any performance gain.
the difference between vertex and solid series is speed and wear and tear, the vertex is the way to go, for get the solid series. |
