Generally you’ll want something that has a high refresh rate in Hz (and low response time in milliseconds (Ms). So many brands and sizes to choose from that fits your needs.
My space is limited so my screen is 27” flatscreen and is 144Hz refresh and 1Ms response time. Don’t buy a curved monitor unless you are buying something BIG. Small screens you’ll loose the curved visual effect. Unless your face is is right up in it. My TV is a 60” curved, so I get the full visual effect. Edit: I did want to add I had a bad experience with a Sharp brand monitor and bad customer service. Edited by Dondomingo - 31 Jul 2019 at 10:04am |

If your budget and video card support it, I would never turn one down 4K for crisp images of four times the normal pixel amount, yet there is more detail and contrast they say with HDR or the best of both worlds with the 4K UHD.
They can run you from 300.00 to 1000.00 plus depending on what you want. I should have gotten a better monitor myself, my 2070 will support it, but I spent so much on the PC build tbh I totally ignored the subject. it’ll have to wait, besides I’m replacing my old 60Hz monitor lol so it’s an upgrade. Regardless just remember no matter what higher the Hz and lower the Ms the better. I’d love to have a ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ 27" but that runs $1.7k Edited by Dondomingo - 31 Jul 2019 at 2:03pm |

That’s definitely a nice monitor, 100hz is for all intent better than 60Hz monitors, yet I couldn’t find its response time listed. So I’ll assume though it’s in the 2-4 range. Still a nice monitor if you find it fits your budget.
In a nutshell 100Hz over a 144hz “probably” wouldn’t be to noticeable by the naked eye compared going from 60 to 100hz unless your playing some extreme FPS and have twitch reflexes. Even then. It can get subjective. That’s the thing that bothers me about some of these monitors out there. Some list at $600 for 4K/HDR/UHD but when you read the fine print they have like 60Hz and 12 Ms response times. Another thing to keep in mind is that as sweet 4K etc is, it still can reduce performance if your PC isn’t up to par to push out that much graphics and speed under load. Hence why a fast 1080p and WQHD are still popular even in the current market. Now you have me thinking of returning the new monitor and spending a few extra bucks...thanks. Welcome to DS and congratulations on getting a Lumos. What did you order inside? To get the Verified Customer badge you have to write your name the saMe As the order, I think. The speed of the monitor is important but do not disregard the type of panel used. I prefer the color rendition of IPS vs TN (and the greater viewing angle) but they are a bit slower (not that you would notice.) The sweet spot IMO is the 2K (1440) resolution. That PG27U (4K) is a hell of a monitor and also pricey. You would need a 2080Ti to make it perform well. Also, depending on the gpu you ordered; if Nvidia based make sure that the monitor you end up getting is GSync and if AMD, FreeSync.. Those are made specially to work with their respective gpu tech. Enjoy.

Nice. Be aware that for storage M.2 is a form factor and that the Pcie interface is way faster than SATA. The DS ssd you have selected is SATA. You can request a change if early and it matters. |

I agree you will be happier with a Samsung 970 EVO m.2 NVMe drive as drive 1. ~5x faster than SATA.
I also agree an IPS panel is far superior for color saturation and display angles. The monitor you have selected will play very nicely with your GPU, and it won't need any overclocking. The gain is very small in exchange for more heat and stress. Be advised ultra-wide is not for everyone. Many games will not display in widescreen, either stretching the image or leaving you with dark bands on both sides. Same with video content. This website will provide you with a wide variety of monitors that are G-Synch enabled: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/ Hope it helps. After spending months looking at monitors, I found the the Dell S-Series 27" (S2719DGF) was my best bang for the buck.
The ROG series monitors are awesome, especially the IPS panels, but the price is just stupid. The Dell is 144Hz, 1440p, 1ms, and under $300. I believe I bought mine for around $270 on sale. The panel is a TN, but I really don't see much of a difference overall between this Dell and my older 23" IPS monitor. Yes the colors are better on an IPS, but it is not drastically different. I have to put them side by side to really see it. I did have to fiddle with the settings more on the TN to get the solid picture, where as the IPS was good right out of the box. The faster Hz and 1440p easily makes up for any color issues. I also am the only person playing the games so viewing angle isn't an issue. The monitor is built very well, and feels like a premium grade. Plenty of USB ports, HDMI, Displayport, Etc. yes there are better monitors, but for what you get, and at the price, the Dell meets every check box I had. |

I would say BENQ 24" XL2411z/p. (I have the XL2411z, no displayport sadly.) Also I've heard that the ASUS VG248QE 24" is pretty good too.

A monitor should outlast a couple builds so feel free to splurge now because you will be saving later.
