AMD is introducing the Phenom II X4 965 to the market. It comes stock at an impressive 3.4GHz, the highest clocked processor AMD has ever pushed to retail. It will go on sale soon for a price of ~$245.
It looks to be quite competitive with Intel's offerings. Here are some reviews: PC Perspective Guru3D Anandtech |

it performs the same as qx9770 and not as well as i7 975 in games, its gets owned in memory read and write by a 920.
but its a good processor still. |

Some people shop for value and performance, and some people shop for just performance. You see processor's are like ice cream. There is a flavor for everyone. Now im sure we can sit here and argue all day of which is the better buy.But most consumer's like having choice's that fit thier budget and taste. So amd came out with a new processor. That's great, more choice's for the public.

concidering that the 920 is lower price then the Phenom II X4 965, the 920 wins both price and performance.

Considering that the Phenom is priced at $249 and the Core i7 is priced at $279 and also considering that AM3 boards are cheaper than X58 boards. I fail to see where you have come to that conclusion.

$30 more? I don't see that as a big deal, speaking of cpu prices themselves.
on the mobo tho ya it will run you extra $80. Edited by DST4ME - 13 Aug 2009 at 2:02pm |

actully the 965 is pointless :/
the 955 is the exact same dam thing just .2 ghz downclocked, so if your smart and get the 955 it would actully be $80 cheaper. |

Maybe the performance is crap due to the dual channel vs triple?
Not sure, I am getting more tempted to build an AMD system just to see what it can do compared to my current system. I am starting to not trust/believe/bother with review sites since they're not as accurate as they could be. |
