Topic: Black Friday Velox Build Posted: 13 Dec 2017 at 8:07pm |
Have been building my own systems since the mid 80's, last major build was in 2009 with a few small updates over the last few years. Current setup features an i7-920 on a ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution MB, 12GB DDR3 1600, Radeon HD 7870, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB (OS), Samsung 840 EVO 250GB (games), 300GB Velociraptor (games), about 7TB of additional internal storage for programs and data, Blu-ray/DVD player and DVD burner, Corsair 1000HX power supply, currently running Windows 10 Pro, all wrapped up in a HAF 932 case.
I've always wanted to buy a DS system, but have never gotten around to it until recently. I was on the website looking at different configurations and came up with one that I liked, and decided to buy it since my current system is getting a bit old. I'm going to be using the new Velox mostly for games, but also streaming Netflix and Hulu at times on my 32" 1080p television. The Velox just went Stage 7 today!! Nowadays you want games and os on ssd, you have the m.2 for os/games, when you get to 60% full start putting things on a second ssd (most likely sata like 850 pro)
Go with h115i cooler instead. Drop the thermal management and controller, there are no fans to connect to it and for most accurate Temps use hwmonitor or realtemp. Drop 5.0ghz oc, otherwise you will endup with setting that are not most efficient, instead oc it yourself we can help you. For games 4.2ghz is more than enough. Go with factory oc instead. If needed we can easily help you get higher. 1080 gtx is overkill for 1080p no need to put it under unnecessary stress with oc, so drop gpu boost also. You don't need that psu but it is your money nothing wrong with getting it performance - wise, Edited by DST4ME - 13 Dec 2017 at 9:24pm |

Congratulations and welcome. That is a nice system and color. Never seen one in blue. We really like to see new systems in their new homes, so pics and a little write up of the experience is always appreciated.
Depending on your order Stage, you can call DS and go with the changes DST4ME suggested. They will make your system stronger and stable for longevity. Enjoy. Edited by hoserator - 14 Dec 2017 at 5:49am |

It’s already on the truck, on its way here. Didn’t have a chance to get suggestions since it was a spur of the moment purchase, but appreciate the feedback. It should be here sometime next week, will post pictures when it arrives.

My Velox got here Monday, several days before I was expecting it. The box had 1 small dent at the top, but the system was packed very well and didn't have any damage.
The Velox case is just as big as my old HAF932-based system, which I wasn't expecting but I'm very pleased about. There's plenty of room for upgrades when it's time for that. I'm not sure yet if I'll set the computer on the floor or have it on the desk, though I'm leaning towards the desk because this system is too pretty to be on the floor! Once I got everything that I ordered unpacked, I did a temporary setup with keyboard and mouse to be sure everything was okay. I turned the computer on and was surprised how quiet it is. The system booted and was at the desktop in a matter of seconds. I checked out a few things, then installed Steam and loaded the latest Wolfenstein game. I changed the display settings to the highest available and started playing. On my old i7-920 2.7Ghz system the game was pretty much unplayable at medium settings, but the Velox ran the game with no issues. I will be putting the rest of my Steam, Origin, Uplay, and GOG libraries on the system in the next few days. My Velox will last me for at least a good 5+ years, but I may go with SLI and a 4K display eventually. This is my first system from DS, and I am truly satisfied with the whole experience, except for having to wait patiently while it was being built! |
