So... 3.3 to 3.9 for stage 1 OCing is a pretty big range. I'm just curious, what makes the determination for how high or low it goes? I suppose they go as high as will be stable, but what determines that?

I am very interested now because mine just reached stage 7 and mine is OCed to 3.9... which I am very excited about, I would just like to know more about what it means and why mine hit the max and others I have seen are 3.8, 3.7, etc. Also, does this increase my need to watch my temps?

no it doesnt, stable means no problems at all, with temps or anything. the max stable overclock you can get is determined by your cooling solution, a little bit of luck with your CPU, and overclocking skill.

luck. all chips are different, DSO will overclock you to a range they consider safe with your set up

my chip, for example, takes mid 1.4s to get over 4.2ghz, ive seen others post that they can get this with high 1.3s... higher voltage means higher temps, and the noctuas are really good, so, generally DSO can get over 3.7 without much issue

So what kind of performance increase can I expect with a 3.9 over say... a 3.7? Noticeable?

Also, what does "s" mean.

Well, can I lose sleep over hitting the highest OC for the Stage 1? I mean, I have a 5 day wait here, I am clinging to anything!
