How does the H115i compare to the NH-D15 Noctua? The Hydrolux would be an option if it was maintenance free.

The Noctua cools within a couple of degrees of the H115i while staying quieter. The difference is negligible for most applications. Some tests show the Corsair 2-3 degrees cooler but 10 dba noisier when fans are on high and the CPU under load. Other tests vary a little here and there.
Noctua is my pick for great cooling, unless you go expensive water, quieter and the most reliable. I haven't checked temps with the 7700k if overclocked to 5.0. |

H115i oc'd to 4.7
Pump on quiet Fans on Balanced (im paranoid about high temps) > 23c idle > 58c avg playing wildlands, peaked at 68c > water temp never above 31c have not run any stress testing at all |

I would think the AIO liquid coolers would do a few degrees better as overclocking was raise vs the Noctua. But, a chip running at 63c under load and one running at 70c under load, makes no difference in performance or longevity. I would pick an air cooler that runs at 70c , over water at 63c for its reliability. Those are just figures I threw out there. If someone wants the smaller AIO for a better view of the motherboard vs the big bulky Noctua then that's a personal choice .

Some memory cards will not fit under the Noctua but I agree with simple and air, although I have everything I can under water. It is requires more maintenance than air and that's without leaks.

Are they both equally reliable? How long can the 115 be expected to last before it fails?

The Noctua is extremely reliable, the only thing to go wrong are the fans, which all coolers, even the liquid coolers have anyways.
Liquid coolers are for the most part very reliable and should run for their 5 year warranty, but the web is full of failures such as pumps failing, firmware updates going bad, etc. No such issues with Noctua. I have a Corsair A70 air cooler, a small step down from Noctua, that's been running for 6 years. The only possible downside to a large air cooler is, as hoserator said, is that some ram sticks with the tall heat spreaders, that you don't need, might not fit. The Noctua fan might hang over a DIMM ram slot or two, depending on the motherboard. The newer D15 vs older D14 Noctua does address this by cutting the fins to sit higher off the mobo. |

I read many positive reviews in regards to Nuctua's fans which have much lower noises in comparison to Corsair. However, haven't test myself. I think its better to replaced the fans that comes with H115i for Noctua to maximize the performance as well as in reducing noise level.
I am still deciding between Bolt 3, Velox and Aventum 3 Got a quick question - Is it possible that DS will offer the parts that are not the configuration list? such as Nuctua fans? or could that be a special request? Thanks. |

@ qiyuguo: DS used to offer the Noctua but there were a number of reported (probably a lot more than appeared here) shipping failures because of its size and it was removed from configurations. That decision caused quite a stir here with some members. I doubt that DS would put one on but....."nothing ventured, nothing gained" no harm in asking. You might want to start a new thread with your needs. Let us know how it goes.
BTW, there is quite a difference ($ and options) between Bolt and an Aventum so maybe you want to narrow down what you want to do with it. Good luck. |

Also with the Bolt, I'm thinking you can't use Noctua?

I meant only Noctua fans, not the NH-D15 cooler
Thanks Hoserator. |
